Hartland, a forgotten "Bloom County" ripoff

    So I was going through newspaper archives when I came across these, from 1985-1986:

    The "Bloom County" influence is really, really obvious.

    So it's like if the earlier version of Binkley got his own strip. And that old lady in the middle there is pretty much Major Bloom. How weird that he ripped off the pre-penguin version when it wasn't nearly as popular.

    Even more weird, the strip ran until 1989, ending around the same time the original "Bloom County" did.
