So, here we are, a full year after Monkeyfunk began taking nominations for Greatest Fantasy Character, finally able to start. the characters have been grouped into matches of 4 characters apiece. in each match, rank the characters from 1-4. 1st place is worth 4 points, and each successive place worth one less point. Two matches will run each day, and at least 24 hours will pass between matches to allow for everyone to get a chance to participate if they so desire. with all that said, lets get underway!

    Round 1

    Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty)

    My Votes

    1. Jamie: a really cool character, and even though i have finished book 1 yet and the first season of Game of Thrones isn't over i look forward to his development over the course of the series
    2. Lucy Muir: i always found the love story between Mrs. Muir and a ghost both cool and moving
    3. Ray: i need to see this movie
    4. Facilier: threat

    1. Vizzini: "you've made one of the greatest blunders of all time. the greatest is never get involved in a land war in Asia. but only slightly lesser known, never go up against a Sicilian, when DEATH is on the line!"
    2. Sauron: one Ring to rule them all, and he created it. the ominous all seeing Eye throughout the Lord of the Rings movies, he is a tremendous villain, if rarely seen.
    3. Maleficent: yeah, she's pretty damn awesome. tough match though
    4. Potter: he's very very evil, but less fantastical than the others

    1. Dr. Facilier (One of my favorite Disney villains. He's really amazing)
    2. Ray (I loved Ray too. The star scene with him at the end of the movie is one of the best that I've seen in animation)
    3. Lucy (Less of a threat)
    4. Jamie (Probably more of a threat)

    1. Maleficent (Probably the greatest Disney villain)
    2. Sauron
    3. Vizzini
    4. Henry Potter

    1. Lucy Muir (crade will need to tell me who this is when he gets the chance. That plot sounds intriguing.)
    2. Dr. Facilier (Overrated, but still good.)
    3. Ray (Whatever.)
    4. Jamie Lannister (Don't know him.)

    1. Maleficent (That's easy! She's a REALLY cool villain, y'know.)
    2. Sauron (That eye looks like something else....)
    3. Potter (Don't know him....)
    4. Vizzini (.... OR him.)

    Match 1:

    1. Jaime Lannister
    2. Dr. Facilier
    3. Ray
    4. Mrs. Muir: Don't know her.

    Match 2:

    1. Maleficent
    2. Sauron: Usually, I'm not a big fan of the "vague, distant personification of evil" -type of villain. Still, one can't deny the influence Sauron has had on the fantasy genre. It's safe to say that most Dark Lords were created with him in mind.
    3. Vizzini: "What, only third place? Inconcievable!"
    4. Mr. Potter

    1. Dr. Facilier - Best part about that movie.
    2. Ray - I know him.
    3. Jamie Lannister - Looks cool.
    4. Lucy Muir - Doesn't.

    1. Maleficent - My pick to win Greatest Disney Villain. She's so scary and freaked me out as a kid.
    2. Sauron - He's cool, I guess.
    3. Vizzini - Looks interesting.
    4. Henry Potter - Doesn't.

    Dr. Facilier 25
    Ray 21
    Jaime 19
    Mrs. Muir 15

    Maleficent 31
    Sauron 26
    Vizzini 19
    Henry Potter 14

The Disney characters and Sauron move on.

    Match 3!

    Dug (Up)

    Abby (Let Me In)

Archivarius Lindhorst - The Golden Flower-Pot
    [IMG]

    Sam the Snowman
    [IMG]

    Match 4!

    The Nameless One (Planescape: Torment)

    Ghost of Christmas Future
    [IMG]

    Saruman the White
    [IMG]

    Ryuk
    [IMG]

    again, that's:

    Dug (Up)
    Abby (Let Me In)
Archivarius Lindhorst - The Golden Flower-Pot
    Sam the Snowman

    The Nameless One (Planescape: Torment)
    Ghost of Christmas Future
    Saruman the White
    Ryuk

    My vote:
    1. Abby: really, in my opinion, was the only character in Let Me In who outshined her (admittedly rather fantastic) counterpart from Let the Right One In. played with such ferocity yet showing such compassion for her newfound human friend, she's truly a great character worthy of advancing far in this match (though I realize i'm probably the only person to have seen the movie. :( )
    2. Dug: awesome talking dog
    3. Sam: I love him. and i'm sure he'll advance since everyone has seen rudolph and no one Let Me In
    4. Long Name: dunno

    1. Ryuk: so evil and conniving and yet jovial and hilarious, he needs to advance
    2. Saruman the White: again, another evil and conniving foe, yet not so humorous, he provides a great foil to Gandalf.
    3. Ghost of Christmas Future: cool
    4. The Nameless One: dunno him either

    1. Ryuk (Evil and conniving? Nay! He's completely indifferent! That's why he's so awesome - 'cause he just doesn't give a damn!)
    2. Ghost of Christmas Future (The best part of that book! He's so cool!)
    3. The Nameless One (Who?)
    4. Saruman (He's cool too, but a threat!)

    Match 3:

    1. Archivarius Lindhorst: More people should read E.T.A. Hoffman. The guy was a pioneer in both the horror and fantasy genres. As for Lindhorst, he's a pretty good example of the mysterious older man/scholar type of character who pop up every now and then in Hoffman's works. See also Drosselmeyer.
    2. Dug
    3. Abby: Don't know her, I'll propably see the original "Let the Right One In" before the remake though.
    4. Sam the Snowman

    Match 4:

    1. The Nameless One: What can change the nature of Man? A deep and very interesting character from a game that's filled with them. An immortal who tries to uncover his past and learn why he can't die. Sure, the whole "I have amnesia and must find out who I am" has been done to death, but Planescape pulls it off expertly.
    2. Saruman: While not the big bad of the trilogy, I consider him a more memorable villain than Sauron. Being played by Sir Christopher Lee in the movies is, of course, an asset.
    3. Ryuk: Ryuk's a pretty cool villain. He eats apples and doesn't give a damn who many people dies as long as he's entertained.
    4. The Ghost of Christmas Future: Always have been my favorite of the Christmas Ghosts and always will be, especially the version "played" by Peg-leg Pete.

    1. Dug - Hilarious character that was the best part of Up.
    2. Sam the Snowman - An important character to a Christmas classic!
    3. Abby - I haven't seen the movie, but I've heard really good things about her.
    4. Archivarius Lindhorst - Don't know.

Only character I know in the second match is the Ghost of Christmas Future so I'll pass.

Let's go with this. Though speaking of E.T.A. Hoffman, we do have Drosselmyer, right?

    Lindhorst 16
    Abby 12

    Ghost 19
    Ryuk 18
    Saruman 17
    Nameless One 14

Dug, Sam, Ghost, and Ryuk move on while Saruman is shockingly out in round 1. damn.

    Match 5!

    Al Elric
    [IMG]

    Sir Lancelot
    [IMG]

    Flying Dutchman (Spongebob Squarepants)

    Gilgamesh (The Epic of Gilgamesh)

    Match 6!

    Mr. Nancy (American Gods/Anansi Boys)
    No Picture

    Cordelia Chase
    [IMG]

The First Evil (Buffy: The Vampire Slayer)

    King Bumi
    [IMG]

    again, that's:

    Al Elric
    Sir Lancelot
    Flying Dutchman (Spongebob Squarepants)
    Gilgamesh(Not the final fantasy character!)

    Mr. Nancy (American Gods/Anansi Boys)
    Cordelia Chase
    The First Evil
    King Bumi

    My Vote:
    1. Lancelot: cool
    2. Gilgamesh: from the epic of gilgamesh(the oldest known written story), not final fantasy. he's cool and deserves to move on
    3. Al Elric: cool, but FMA not my thing
    4. Flying Dutchman: no

    1. Cordelia: most dynamic buffyverse character that believably transforms from high school queen b*tch in Buffy to the most compassionate and intelligent member of Angel's team in Angel
    2. First Evil: great big bad from buffy that was the oldest being, and incorporeal being made of pure evil. it appeared only in the form of those who had died, and was intangible and thus unkillable
    3. King Bumi: dunno
    4. Mr. Nancy: dunno him either, and no pic
