With the whole possibility of Tatum leaving I had honestly forgotten this movie already had a set director .

I think in the wake of 'Fant4stic', we'll see alot more creative types be wary of FOX. If they can't find a good director soon, it is very possible this could get pushed back and dropped.

This is FOX learning they should just stick with the X-Men and be more careful with it. Just because Mystique is a mutant and played by Jennifer Lawrence, doesn't mean the audience wants a Mystique solo film. Though, let's be honest, if that was announced tomorrow, it would get far more anticipation than this.

“I was very much looking forward to working with my friend Channing and the team at Fox, but regrettably a push in the start date now conflicts with another project. I thank them for the opportunity, and I know that Gambit will make a terrific film.” -Rupert Wyatt

You can make a movie out of anything, but...
I legit have no idea what a Mystique "blockbuster" would entail.
Is that really still a thing?
At least with Gambit you get an entire group of untapped characters and locations with a potentially interesting enough set-up for a different kind of action flick in the X-men lineup.

No, I don't think so. FOX probably wants J Law for it, but she commands a hefty price.

I really enjoyed Greg Pak's recent Storm solo series why not a Storm movie?

Alexandra Shipp seems to really enjoy the character, even reading some of the Greg Pak run herself for homework, and if her appearance in Apocalypse is well-received I would be totally down for a Storm solo movie .

Though I wonder if there might be a temptation to get Halle Berry back?

A director's creative vision conflicting with the suits behind a comic book movie? Haven't heard that before :p.

If this is finally the one, my interest will skyrocket.
This production needs to happen within the next few weeks-next month for that planned fall 2016 release.

Never thought I'd hear Shane Black connected to a comic book movie again....

I think Black would be interesting, especially with Chattum. I do wonder if he'll add some script revisions, as his dialogue is great. Not that familiar with Cornish.

Absolutely no to Shane Black directing. His previous 2 movies were insufferable.
I'm indifferent to Cornish, having not seen any of his stuff.

Man is this still being planned for October 2016? They have literally less then a year to go if that's the case and they're only in "final directorial negotiations?" Doctor Strange is already been filming for like half a week and it's suppose to come out a month after this movie. Seriously as much as I like Edge of Tomorrow is this going to be just a super rush job if Liman does get it or are they going to push the date back some? Cause I guess there's still time to make it but... progress really should of happened production wise by now.

11/13: Well, I assume some work has been done on it already when Wyatt was onboard. However, it is cutting it close. If they begin filiming in the next month or so, wrap by March, they may still have time. Depending on how much sfx they want, which I hope is minimal.

EDIT: Belladonna not quite cast yet:

11/16 Kinberg is stating 'Gambit' will be a heist movie:

Yay. With this director, it will be a better heist film than Ant-Man. Production begins in the Spring, but they haven't announced a new release date yet.

I think with this being a Gambit solo movie, there was no chance of it not being a heist film :p.

Though I hope we start hearing some more concrete casting and crew news soon o_O.

From EMPIRE, Kinberg confirms Gambit will have his accent, attitude and costume. He also confirmed he is a thief and it's a big part of the movie. Sweet.
