If you were impressed by how much one episode of Futurama cost when it was mentioned on the cards, chew on this:

One Futurama episode cost more to make than the feature film Monty Python & the Holy Grail.

You know what's weird. It takes A Million Dollars (On Average) To make an Episode Of Family Guy. It takes 1.3 Million To Make an Episode of Futurama, on average. And yet it takes 2 million to make an episode of the Simpsons. It must be all that yellow paint, and the voice actors asking for such huge bonuses.

I recall an article that said that Home Movies cost somewhere in the neighbourhood of $200,000 an episode to make..

ATHF is probably $1.50, hear they're going to change the cast to an in-house one to get rid of the bus fare problem. :p

According to Mike Lazzo's interview over at IGN, their episodes cost under $50k. Although being only 10 minutes long helps, apparently the only thing cheaper than a Korean sweatshop is a Flash animator.

according to athf.com, each episode costs about $60,000 to make. Which isn't much, but it's a lot more then a $1.50.

a lot of those costs are thanks to big egos and bonuses. or in Futurama's case, CGI elements as well. also FOX gives their executive producers assisstants, and allows them to rewrite and reanimate scenes even after an episode is completed.

I wouldn't mind paying 6 mil for a feature film, if I got a large chunck of the profits. Too bad I don't have that type of money.

It's not that surprising. Futurama is state-of-the-art animation, while the Monty Python guys couldn't afford horses, and had to use castle models because the British government wouldn't let them use any Scottish castles. It wasn't the highest budget film, but it was still one of the most brilliant comedies in the medium.

    Yeah that seems odd.
How much does an episode of x-men evolution or tarzan cost?
They seem to have better quality animation. Though not as many people I suppose.

Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardly Smith, Hank Azaria, and Harry Shearer get paid over $100,000 an episode. Matt Groening, James L. Brooks, Sam Simon, and Al Jean get paid a similar amount.

Another thing to factor into Futurama's production costs is all of the guest voice actors. Whenever there's a celebrity drawn in, that real life celebrity does the voice. In that one episode where Fry tracks down the original Star Trek episodes, the entire original cast was brought into to play their animated counterparts. Hell, even Jonathan Frakes was brought in ONLY TO SAY, "Yeah, front row!"
