I'm pretty sure the idea came from what they've been doing with Nick for many years!
Oh, I don't think it starts with Nickelodeon......
Actually it does and has had history for spamming shows since 2008. But as you said with other Viacom networks, here's one: TVLand may be doing same thing. Maybe that perhaps ratings had been continuously down.
Or Viacom as a whole is just in need of more viewers so they just all follow the same protocol.
The Viacom channels are also notorious for last-second schedule changes without rhyme, reason, or explanation, and that's been going on since the 90's.
I think Nick@Nite should acquire/reacquire more sitcoms from the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s to the lineup for ex: Home Improvement, Family Matters, etc.
I think TV Land need a major overhaul on their schedule just like Nick@Nite.
I think George Lopez has overstayed its welcome. For this fall, they should add shows like The Office, Scrubs, The King of Queens, The Goldbergs, etc. When I was a kid, ABC's saturday morning block aired the same shows for 5 years, then the block was canceled. If Nick at Nite continues with airing the same shows, then it might be canceled to. I also think Friends should leave the lineup, while it is a good show, it's already airing on MTV & TBS, and its been on the block for 6 years now. My Nick at Nite Fall 2017 lineup is...
8:00pm: Full House
8:30pm: Full House
9:00pm: Full House
9:30pm: Full House
10:00pm: The King of Queens
10:30pm: The King of Queens
11:00pm: The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
11:30pm: The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
2:00am: The Office
2:30am: The Office
3:00am: The King of Queens
3:30am: The King of Queens
4:00am: The Goldbergs
4:30am: The Goldbergs
5:00am: The Goldbergs
5:30am: The Goldbergs
6:00am: Full House
6:30am: Full House
I think Nick at Nite should be removed from Nickelodeon period. It really has fallen grace. Full House barely gets shown on primetime all due to Nashville, movies overplaying like Ice Age!
Friends is already readying to get out of contract by this year, don't know exactly what date.
NickMom lasted for few years due to falling ratings. I'm pretty sure same thing with Nick at Nite applies soon if same trend continues to happen..
Has Nick@Nite ever syndicated a show that's still airing new episodes? If not, then I don't think The Goldbergs belongs.
EDIT 9/4: Okay, guess I was wrong.
Well, there is Nashville airing on CMT at 9PM, and Nick at Nite at later time after movie. They both air same day, like Thursdays. I don't know if Nashville counts as syndication...
They also previously simulcasted CMT Music Awards 2017 last month.
But if you're talking about syndicated shows, then no new episodes..
They could just replace Nick at Nite with NickSplat and add more shows to NickSplat. Here's how it goes:

12:30 Hey Arnold!
1:00 Ren and Stimpy
1:30 Ahhh!!! Real Monsters
2:30 All Grown Up!
3:00 My Life As A Teenage Robot
4:00 The X's
4:30 Kappa Mikey
5:00 Angry Beavers
5:30 As Told By Ginger
6:00 Rocket Power
6:30 Invader Zim
10:00 Shuriken School
10:30 Kaput and Zosky
11:00 Corneil and Bernie
11:30 Yakkity Yak
12:00 Tiny Toons

Guys, this really isn't the place to put your fantasy schedules. Go to the Nickelodeon Fantasy Schedule Thread if you want to put these over there. Not saying this to be mean, just saying that there's a better place for fantasy schedule posts.
Depending on the rights I doubt The Goldbergs would be able to join.
I think Viacom has a contract with Warner Bros since the latter is the main company who produces The George Lopez Show so if WB has to do with The Goldbergs it may have a chance
The problem is they lack variety, as they literally air the same four shows every night ("Full House", "Friends", "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air", and "George Lopez"). While Adult Swim has gotten kind of stale, at least they more variety. I think "Daria" would be perfect for Nick at Nite; isn't really for children, but also not too risque that it couldn't air on Nick at Nite. Air some classic Nickelodeon sitcoms too, like "Clasrissa Knows Best", "The Adventures of Pete and Pete", "Kenan and Kel", "Drake and Josh", etc.
They're adding The Goldbergs (something I said in this very thread a couple moths ago that I didn't think it would air) soon, so it will be up to 5 soon.
Also I just saw a promo that Nick@Nite will air The Goldbergs on Mon Sept 18, time is unknown
Nice that something new is getting added to the block.
It's been revealed that it will air at 1:06AM and 1:39AM starting late Mon Sept 18..
Fresh Prince gets moved to 2AM
