    Plot Summary:
Based on the bestselling manga by Tsugumi Ooba and Takeshi Obata followed up by two live action movies, the Death Note anime series makes its debut tonight on japanese television. This thread will be used to discuss the episodes themselves and also how they are similar/different to the manga.

Word of advice: you may discuss the episodes themselves but not how you've got around to viewing them lest we all want to risk the thread getting locked.

No mention of fansub groups or any other parties involved in providing you the means to view this show. All violators will be reported.

    Tonight's episode in japan:

    Episode 1 - Rebirth

I so hope this series gets licensed quickly and starts coming out before the Spring. Chance are, Viz will release it. It is already an Adult Swim ready title, so I bet we will see it on TV before DVD though.

This is the only shounen title I approve of being on Adult Swim. It's amazing how different this series feels compared to all the other stuff in Shounen Jump. This should be in a Seinen magazine, but it's not for some strange reason. Then again, there's a lot of seinen shows that should be shounen.. so I guess it's a trade off.

    That's nothing.

Try imagining him as Kylie from South Park.

I wonder if Light'll ever say "Oh my God! I killed Kenny! I'm a bastard!"

EDIT- In all seriousness, I'm really excited about this show. I just hope they keep in the intelligent dialouge and paranoid inner monolouges. I'd hate to see that gone in leau of actiony violence. >>

    Yup.

As for the for it'll translate to anime, my hopes aren't the highest. It's a great manga and an even better movie, but as an anime? I'm not feeling that great about it.

Light's VA? He looks like a slightly overweight Japanese man.

Erm I don't think you're talking about Light's VA because because he doesn't look overweight AT ALL, he's in the middle. He doesn't voice Kyle either. Stop spreading lies about Mamoru Miyano!! Hehe Im kidding actually I think you're thinking about L's VA.

Anyway, I can't wait to watch this! The animation looks SO good.

Yeah, it was Kappei I was talking about, got them mixed up. I remember seeing a recent photo of him and he didn't look fat, but he didn't look thin either.

That guy looks more like Light than the guy who played him in the movie did.

He actually came out looking pretty good in the movie.

    Saw episode one and...eh.
My fears were justified. It does not make the transition to anime good, at all. Manga? You’re expected to read. Movie? It’s got a great cast to help it along. Anime? No. It was boring, it was slow, I REALLY hope that it picks up.

Can someone find a better looking poster for the anime? The link is broken.

The first episode of the Death Note anime was amazing. Fantastic animation, amazing direction, great music, good pacing... Great all around. This is pretty much what many people wanted in a Death Note anime, and then some. The lighting, the angles, and the music really helps bring in the perfect mood for the anime.

    Let's bring on L!

EDIT: The only thing I didn't like was the OPs and EDs for the music. The animation were top-notch, but the music not as much.
