I always thought Shirley Walker's music made the ending of "Mudslide" extremely powerful. One of show's strongest endings, and a lot of that is down to the music. "Mudslide" will be one of the best additions to this set!

Was it a deliberate choice to include all 8 of the remaining Walker scores from the first 65 episodes on this set, John? It's a great move. :) And I have to agree with Riddler about wanting to see TAoB&R get a release next, with 'B:TAS vol. 4' hopefully following it some day. I know you can't comment on upcoming releases, but do you think there's a good chance that things will pan out this way?

I like how the character pictured on a given disc is on there because its score selection makes use of their theme. Maybe we could see Harley Quinn, Mr. Freeze and Batgirl (and Bane or Killer Croc?) on the eventual TAoB&R discs? :D

    Hi,

I was about to ask if the score from "A Bullet for Bullock" was already included in previous CD's because I did not remember it, but thanks for reminding me that that episode belong to the TAOB&R, ohh and "Fear of Victory" is an episode that I remember pretty well from my childhood, it was one of the early episodes that I watched :D, I was so impress with the Scarecrow , so sign me up too for a Volume 4 just to complete the original run of 65 episodes :D

But anyway back to Volume 3, I'm soooooo happy to finally get another release, every year I'm hoping add another BTAS soundtrack to my collection, I'll be there on Tuesday and I'm hoping to get an autographed copy :D

    Later...

Sadly, I was unable to snag an autographed copy of either Vol. 1 or Vol. 2, so I'm determined to get one for what could be the last B:TAS volume.

I have to be honest, I'm sad we didn't get the score to Moon Of The Wolf. I know alot of people dislike that episode, but I thought the musical score went a long way in adding some atmosphere and edge.

I managed to get an autographed copy of volume 1 in 2008, but I missed out on one for volume 2. I'd like to get one for volume 3. Every volume so far has had a few of my favourite scores from the series (along with lots of other enjoyable ones of course), and this one is no exception, so a signed front tray card would be a terrific bonus :)

Nearly 80 mins of music on each disc... volume 3 will be a great listen! :D

Sadly, this ends up coming at an unfortunate time for me financially. I won't be able to order it right away, so I'm going to miss out on the autographed copy. (Which won't really bug me too much, because I only had Volume 2 autographed and not Volume 1.) I was really hoping this would come out over the summer, when a purchase would have been more possible. But at this time, I'm going to have to wait a bit. Fortunately, considering the number of copies and the pricing, I don't see it selling out completely right away. I mean, Volume 2 is almost the same price and still available a little over two years later, and I've yet to see LLL issue any "low numbers" warning on it like they tend to do. So I'm confident Volume 3 will hang around for awhile until I can snatch it up.

I hope to get an autographed copy too. I wonder if La-La has anything else coming out this year for DC Comics. I'd really like a Beware the Batman soundtrack myself.

If they do have any more DC plans for the year, I'd rather that they avoid DCAU titles. It's not that the music isn't good, it's just that I feel that they've done both a Superman AND a Batman soundtrack in one year. Maybe a Beware the Batman soundtrack, as you suggested, or maybe a second volume of Young Justice.

Soundtrack co-producer John Takis (who also awesomely swings by the forums from time to time) participated in a short Q & A to promote tomorrow's release of Batman: The Animated Series - Original Soundtrack from the Warner Bros. Television Series, Volume Three. Takis fills us in on what to expect in this epic four-disc set and drops more than a couple interesting yarns concerning the featured music. Click on the image below to check it all out!

Really great questions (and answers)! It's always interesting to hear a little more about the process of making these sets.

You know this music is powerful when it can make Bruce Timm cry! :p Robins Reckoning was definitely an emotional episode.

It's so great that La La Land continues to release these amazing soundtracks, not only because I love these shows and the music is amazing but also to preserve it forever. Hopefully some day we will have every last piece of DCAU music in our collections!

I am so excited for this release tomorrow!!! :D Hopefully I will be able to pick up a signed copy too... I wasn't able to get vol.1 or 2 signed. I wonder how quickly those will sell.

That was pretty nice to read about Bruce Timm. I seem to recall that in the Shirley Walker retrospective Film Score Monthly after she died, Timm said that he had once requested Walker make him cassette copies of her music, and he'd listen to them in his car all the time while driving to and from the studio, and even just around town.

    8pm, I think. :)

That's a very nice Q&A - the process of producing the CDs, working with different sources, sounds fascinating and challenging. I'm glad that nothing has been discovered to be beyond repair so far! The preservation of the music for the future is all the more important when you bear in mind that there's 'damage' that could get worse over time if conscientious record labels like La La Land don't take action. This is why we need to keep our fingers crossed for vol. 4 and The Adventures of Batman and Robin while releasing the music without any sound flaws is still feasible.

Hmm... That's later than I thought. I have to keep on top of this if I want that signed copy.

I'm also thrilled that La La Land Records have gone to such lengths to preserve this astounding music. It makes the possibility of a Vol. 4 all the more realistic. My only fear is sales and consumer demand... Vol 2 is still readily available and it seems that Superman: The Animated Series didn't fly out the door. I assumed after the swift sell out of B:TAS Vol 1, that Vol. 2 would have been gone before now. I certainly didn't expect it to be hanging around over two years later.

Yep. At the time of my posting this, it's 4.20pm in the UK and 8.20am pacific time.

Hopefully Warner Bros. can be convinced. La La Land have released a number of 2-disc sets this year so volume 4 might be viable. A 4-disc set for The Adventures of Batman and Robin would be ideal to ensure that no-one is disappointed (for example, I really want "Make 'Em Laugh" and "Sideshow" as well as the more obvious choices), and this would mean that we could probably have all of Shirley Walker's solo scores for both B:TAS and TAoB&R.

But on the subject of volume 4, they could have 5 episodes on one disc and 4 on the other with some of the unreleased cues from volume 1. Not to take the spotlight off volume 3's impending release but here's a list I've mind of some cues which didn't make vol. 1 which would be nice to have on vol. 4.

    1. IT’S NEVER TOO LATE – Stromwell and Batman on the Roof
    2. PRETTY POISON – Ambulance / Rushed to Hospital / Bruce Takes the Sample / Bruce Suspects Pamela
    3. CHRISTMAS WITH THE JOKER – Drive to the Observatory
    4. TWO-FACE PART I – Lashing Out At Carlos / The Psychiatrist Summons Big Bad Harv / Candace Outside the Office
    5. TWO-FACE PART II – Two-Face Driven Past Grace’s Apartment (with Two-Face Remembers?)
    6. VENDETTA – The GCPD File Room (with The Crocodile’s Lair?)
    7. VENDETTA – Batman Confronts Rupert Thorne / Batman Interrogates Thorne
    8. PERCHANCE TO DREAM – Selina Walks in on Bruce (with Bruce Sees Batman & Bruce Watches Batman at Work?)
    9. PERCHANCE TO DREAM – Bruce Runs from the Police

The already-released cues-in-brackets are there so that those of us using iTunes can put the cues together in chronological order so that the episode's music plays in the intended order. Maybe these 9 tracks could find their way onto vol. 4, if it's produced? It would be great if others would chime in to give their thoughts or support for this. :)

    Great idea, Shadowstar.

There's no reason, consumer interest permitting, that La La Land wouldn't give this some serious consideration. They've come so far and it would be a shame to leave Batman: The Animated Series unfinished musically.

A 2 disc set, at a limited quantity of (roughly) 1,500 should satisfy completists and be an easy sell for the label.

I totally agree Shadowstar. I really hope we see those final tracks released. It seems like it would be possible with a smaller unit size (like 1500 units).

I've noticed something kind of puzzling recently. Why doesn't the official B:TAS page on Facebook promote these soundtrack releases? All they seem to do is post comedic pictures from the show or unrelated stuff. The page has 2.5 million followers... I'm sure there's bound to be many people who would love to have these soundtracks but have no idea that they exist.

Even though La-La Land produces them, they're still official Warner Bros./DC releases! I guess they did make a post when some of the volumes were made available on iTunes, probably because they were from Watertower Music? But they also made a post about the Mondo B:TAS vinyls.

I messaged the page about it but I doubt that will do anything. I think it would boost sales a lot if they made a post for it though...these amazing releases deserve a mention!

If you click here and scroll down, you will see the announcement for a MAJOR composer signing to be held at Creature Features in Burbank, CA on Oct. 25th from 1-3 PM. And when I say "major," I mean probably the single largest DCAU composer meet-and-greet ever. If you're in the LA area, you will not want to miss this!

Also, there's a new review of the set up at the "Not a Hoax! Not a Dream!" blog that includes this nice "group photo" of all the LLL BTAS CDs:
