I've been rough-drafting this for a few minutes out of the day, for the past three days.

    Who will wins, indeed? :)

I tried to build a Harlock character from scratch and...it spiraled into this.

    Needs work, but the hair and cape will stay. I...can't explain the rest, but it must change. -_-;

EDIT: Color made it look better; I'm still deciding.

Thought it turned out kinda cool; nice ink-bushido painting-thing going on.

I tried throwing color on it but it ruined the effect.

I'd still like to give this another go from scratch and see if I can make a better version. Looks like a nice storyboard sketch though.

    Beach...and Bleach! =D

Still trying to get a grasp for Kubo's art style. He looks quite disoriented and cranky, doesn't he?

It wasn't the result I wanted, but I was just experimenting with the digital tablet so...

Yes, I do make backgrounds every now and then. ^^

I'm always being told that you shouldn't throw anything you just because it's not what you set out to make. Glad to see your experiment here. I think the texturing is marvelous. There is a clear sense of perspective as you reduce detail in the distance.

I always thought Ichigo looked perma-cranky with chronic bed hair. Wasn't that said by someone in the show? It's been a long time since I've watched it - since filler.

Raplh's pose is excellent and I like the procedural steps you showed. While the inks are really good, I think some varied linewieghts would make him stand out better. Overall good piece of work!

I take it you're liking the demo for Manga Studio EX, eh? The inks look good, like you're emulating the look of tech.pens or sakura pens. Have you tried the brush tool from the pen selection menu yet? I usually use that tool for primarily all my inking in MS Debut as it mimics brush inking really well.

Thanks! My proportions always manage to get screwed up along the way, so that makes me feel better.

I've been trying that lately. I hate having to type in the parameters...I'm going to have to remember to save the brushes. I wish there was a way to flip the 'in' and 'out' parameters rather than typing those out too.

I've tried using that, but I'm finding myself using it just for heavy shading, followed by stretching ink lines out of said shading. I haven't really taken the time to experiment with it more other than that.

Oh, and thanks for helping me decide on getting the Debut package in the other thread.

I guess the only problem with it right now is that the program isn't letting me manually paint screen tones like EX did. I tried looking through the tutorial, but I haven't found anything helpful.

More work in lieu of doing homework:

EDIT: Had to fix his right elbow. You know, Photobucket really gets on my nerves, the way it turns your image code into a link if you go back and edit your posts. >:[

What I do is just make a small selection and paste the tone into that. After that's done, remove the selection and then you can paint your tone. Hope that helps.

I won't have the inking done tonight, but this is what I'm working on now.

I might use the grayscale tones on this one, it's a cool effect.

Looking good! I love the pose on Sano! You're getting better at digital inking, the Rude maquette looks great!

Wow, I really like your work :) Favorites so far are the Squall sketch with the dark look in his eyes, and this character here (quite like the pose):

    Aiiieee, Big Boss! <3

Is it bad that I thought I saw Sol Badguy in the Sano sketch? Maybe it's the hair, or the pose... but either way, they're both badass.

    Love the sketches. :)
