Gratis is Dutch/French/Romanian/Swedish for free / chargeless. (Nowadays 'gratuit' is more common in French)
Vrij also means free / unrestricted. ('liber' in Romanian) Vrij also refers to sex.

    And Vrijdag is Friday :D

Since they can't put text in the local languages on the shared feeds (RSEE, CEE), the finger or something else

Since nobody is talking about the information in those articles, here are their main points:

    • Planned launch is September 1st
    • Everything should be ready by then
    • Target audience will be kids 6-12 years
    • CZ audio will be on CEE feed; currently tested
    • CZ audio will cover shows, promos and bumpers
    • First shows were dubbed into CZ at end of last year
    • Existing CN originals with CZ dubb will get new dubb
    • Turner wants to unify show dubbs and have better control over them
    • There will be CZ ads during breaks through opt out
    • CZ ads will be supervised by Atmedia like in Hungary
    • There will be a localized CZ website
    • There will be a localized CZ FB page
    • 16:9 switch is coming due to CZ launch
    • New graphics are coming
    • HD is coming and should be available shortly; possibly around launch
    • Confirmed providers to offer CN CZ so far include UPC CZ cable, Freesat CZ and DigiTV CZ satelitte
    • There was idea of dubbing some content into SK language, but scrapped for now

    @RegularCapital @BloggerHU @alfa_alfa I think we should look forward :)

Speaking of SK dubs, Markiza TV aired Scooby Doo, T&J and Looney Tunes.

Turner has enough money to waste making new dubs, instead of buying old ones

Are you sure they are also talking about the Decko dubs? If Decko is going to cross-promote CN CEE this Fall, I can imagine they have some kind of deal together.

Maybe they are only talking about a new dub for Dexter's Lab, PPG, Samurai Jack and the first 4 Ben 10 series. (if those shows will be rerun at all)

Turner wants full responsability over certain Czech dubs and won't use the ones made for Czech Television.

No problem man. It happens. Stuff can easily go under the radar. Especially when the loading on this site isn't always ideal :D

Anyway, I'm glad that CN will finally be in Czech :), it's a long time coming, fifteen years or so too late, but it's here.

Yeah. I think it took so long, because of the specific Czech market. When CN launched here in 1993/94, only a select few had cable or satelitte to afford it. Plus people were put off by it being English. People here barely spoke it. Then Nova launched in 1994, along with SuperMax, Max1 and HBO. Too many channels owned by TimeWarner at once to warrant another one. Especially when the launched ones were fully localized and didn't share their timeslot with another like CN did initially with TNT. I don't think anyone would have been interested at the time had they dubbed CN, because everyone was already too focused on something else. Not to mention they'd have to probably dub also TNT, which they actually briefly did, and that channel wasn't as popular as CN here to begin with. All four channels grew and CN remained the same. Then it was discontinued on UPC cable and other providers and that sort of sealed the deal. When SuperMax ended in 2004/05 kids shifted their focus towards Minimax/A+/Animax, Fox Kids/Jetix and that seemed to be enough. Then Disney Channel launched in 2009, with Nick in 2010, and then Decko in 2013. A good amount of CN originals and CN third-party shows were aired on SuperMax, Barrandov, Nova, Prima and Decko. Kids had enough. They didn't need all of them at one place. Nova and their spin-off channels were then going through big changes between 2009-2014 and until 2017 were more less stagnating, while having changes in 2004 and a smaller crisis around 2000. Prima was in a similar state. And the pay tv kids channels here were evolving as well.

Basically, as unbelievable as it may seem, Turner didn't have since 1993 a real opportunity to launch CN here properly. The market was unstable and too dynamic, providing only a few small windows, and TimeWarner (Turner's parent) invested in it already more than enough. Now, that CME (Nova's parent company who's parent is TimeWarner) is prospering and stable, the other kids channels have layed out their cards and when a good amount of CN shows have been aired, is finally a good time to launch. Plus it's a good reason to improve CN CEE itself.

So, it indeed took a long time, but I think things came now full circle :)

    Gotta love that schedule change.

Interesting history @Checkerboard , I sure hope CN CEE will actually be succesfull in the Czech Republic, it would be a pity if it ended up being the way it used to - but then again, it seems less likely, with it now being dubbed into Czech, rather than leaving everything in English.
