Toonami concludes its month of movies by closing out the year with Trigun: Badlands Rumble!

Twenty years ago on the planet Gunsmoke, Vash the Stampede, the notorious pacifist outlaw with a $$60 billion bounty, saves the bank robber Gasback's life after his henchmen attempt to betray him, botching his attempt at a life-threatening heist. Unfortunately, Vash's act leads to karmic consequences down the road as Gasback develops a massive bounty and places more lives in danger. Now, 20 years later, Vash has to revisit his old flame as their paths cross once again.

Enjoy the movie tonight at midnight. Only Toonami.

Well, I've had a very busy and exhausting week, and I just got back from a five hour car trip, but I'm gonna try and stay up for this one.

Anyway, funny story about me is that I never actually watched Trigun when it first aired on Adult Swim so many years ago. However, I did recently finish watching it for the first time on Netflix. All in all, yeah, it's a pretty solid show. It's got an interesting plot, a cool design (though all the settings are pretty same-y), great animation, and an interesting cast of characters (and while Vash is an awesome character, my favorite has to be Meryl).

That being said, the show isn't without its faults. The sudden shift from goofy happy-go-lucky space western to the brutality of episode 12 was honestly pretty jarring for me and I found it kind of uncomfortable to watch. Also, one must admit, there were quite a few things left unexplained (most of which, I understand, were answered in the manga): What exactly were Vash and Knives? Were they aliens, cyborgs, other-worldly beings? (Actually, I looked this up and found out it was the last one, but still, the anime wasn't clear on this). Why was Legato given Vash's arm and why did it give him psychic powers? What happened to all the people from the towns that Legato hypnotized? If he killed them, why did he do so in that fashion? Why weren't the children effected? What exactly was Knives's plan to destroy the human race anyway?

I could go on, but you get the point. With those unanswered questions, I can't really call it a perfect adaptation, but it was still a mighty fine anime. Though I definitely preferred the first half to the second half. In any case, I'm still looking forward to the movie tonight. And, yes, this is the only film from Toonami movie month that I've never seen before.

Ahh, Trigun. One of an unofficial anime trilogy, along with Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star. Space westerns involving bounty hunters that came out in 1998 and have been shown on Toonami and/or Adult Swim. Has it really been ten years since it first aired on this channel?

    It's a madhouse! A MAAAADHOUSE!!! ...production.

    Well I'm ready to rumble...

And if my DVR guide is right, it's only 2 hours long.

Is that suppose to be Trigun's version of Colonel Sanders?

Is that John Swasey's voice I'm hearing?

Reminds me of how the Bebop movie started. Philosophical discussion during a robbery.

Next a giant boulder comes rolling at them from the other end of the hallway.

Don't believe the hype. The Vash I know is a peacenik, a dum bulb and a donut addict.

Previously on Toonami Movie Month: The FMA ending that nobody liked better than Brotherhood

Tonight: Cowboys in space......N-no. The other show.

Well, you can't blame Toonami for this one. Apparently even Japan thought it was a good idea to make a film adaptation of an anime that aired over 10 years ago.

So, is this movie gonna more like the light-hearted first half or the dark grim second half of Trigun?

Gasback? That's an embarrassing villain. Sounds like a retaliation fart.

So, double dollars. Is that the equivalent of yen or dollars?

Vash arrives! And, of course, he's yelling like a ninny.

And there's Vash the Stampede...a bit light on the Stampede.

I thought it was five-second rule.

Oh yeah, the Plants. Those things that were never clearly explained or expanded on in the original show.

    Cat spotting!

Ah, Meryl and Milly. Everyone's two favorite insurance agents.

"Join us for an alcoholic beverage"? What kinda pick up line is that?
