Season 3 of the Venture Bros. continues this Sunday at 11:30 PM Eastern. So far, this season has been very plot-heavy, tying up loose ends and covering back stories for certain characters. All this makes this show even more engaging than the typical AS original.

Broadcast Order: Season 3, Episode 4
Production Order: Season 3, Episode 11

I laughed even harder when he was all like "We've all heard that one before, you're not getting the point."

Today's episode was...okay...compared to the others anyway. I think that when they were funny they hit the funny extremely hard but other than that, the story moved at a snail's pace. Of course, we'll be seeing more of the world's nicest arch-enemy Sgt. Hatred (who we finally saw his HOVER-TANK ooooooohhh) but whatever

I have a feeling that the season finale is going to be awesome for some reason.

    lol, Mariah Carey.

Any episode that references Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo and Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me is cool in my book. People who complained about the backstory-heavy episodes should like this one.

There was an awful lot of naked manflesh in this episode.

Although episodes like the last one are important at filling in backstory and adding in richer layers to the universe, it's also stuff like this that makes me a fan of Venture Brothers: just the general hilarity you get when you get these characters chatting up a storm with each other and seeing what sort of funny lines and jokes you can pull out of it. In general I pretty much found everything funny (I suppose the best jokes were the Monarch burning all of Phantom Limb's possessions and then almost lighting his own wings on fire, Sgt Hatred's reaction the Venture compound and his incredibley detailed allergy and fact finding sheet, The Monarch having to kick the Moppets out of his room and putting them somewhere else in the mansion, Hatred hitting Dr. Venture with a plastic bullet and being surprised he was bleeding, Sgt. Hatred being a child pedophile with Hank and Dean which would be a bad running joke if they ran it into the ground like Family Guy did with Herbert, Dr. Venture trying to guess who he was in that guessing game and saying he was George Bush, Hitler and then finding out he was Mariah Carey, Dr. Dean trying to cheer 24 up and actually getting him to admitt some of his past, Hank calling pornography no no films, Sgt. hatred showing off all of his stuff to the Monarch who has the same thing, the guessing game and Dr. Girlfriend getting Monarch's guess right away, Dr. Venture thinking Hatred and Monarch were impressed by his package and the ending) but the plot of it was also good: Now with The Monarch living the high life taking over for Phantom Limb just what is there left for him to do? A lot since he still has a grudge against venture and Hatred has a grudge against him, and based on this episode Hatred seems like a great new villian to introduce to the fold of the VB universe (yeah he was in other eps but this one feels like a good debut to his character truthfully) who will be nice to Venture to screw with the Monarch, who will still have some issues with Dr. Girlfriend which should play out well. Between the hilarity and just the way the jokes bounced off each other, defintley the strongest episode yet and one of the strongest of the show really.

This episode was better than the previous three, but I still don't think this season has reached it's potential. It's nice to see that they weren't focusing completely on the backstory and we actually got some more of the title characters, but I feel like this episode was cutting out some of the best parts. Like when Brock beats the crap out of Hatred's men or how Dean cheered up 24. There could've been a lot more hilarity to be had there. Don't get me wrong, it's still a funny episode, but not as funny as it could've been.

So far this season has a very villain focused themes. I know they're building to something. But I'm not 100% sure what. After all we seem to be dealing the the creation of the Guild, the creation of super villains and the recruitment in to the Guild.

Maybe its all leading to the fall of the Guild. dun dun dun

I was kinda hoping Brendon Small would voice Sgt. Hatred again in this one.

George Bush? Hitler? Socrates' son? Ooooooh, Mariah Carey.

    Dean Venture as Patch Adams.

    Sweet infinity shot.

Rusty's still feeling it from Mid-Life Chrysalis.

Once you arch Venture, you never go back.

So THAT explains her bass vocals.

Dr. Venture's censor bar is shrinking. Must be the hot tub water.

Now THIS is more like it. Feels more like a Venture episode than two of the last three.

The episode started off a little slow but after the intro with Sgt. Hatred I started to laugh. Maybe I'm the only one here but this episode reminded me of season's one episode "Tag Sale, You're It!." Instead of typical "adventure" or intense plot like the first three eps., it was just a social get together party hosted by an evil villain.

I've attended one or two parties that had incredible lame games or just feeling forced to socialize because you don't have anything else to do besides eating all cocktail shrimp. Guilty.

Brock retreating to the den to watch a PBS show about giant crossbows was hilarious but I wish we were able to watch him go ape Sh!* on Sgt. Hatred minions. *Sigh* Btw, my father loves the show but doesn't understand why the writers are so obsessed with gay undertones. I've told him its a new form of comedy for my generation, sadly. :p

And is it me or does Dr. Girlfriend sounds more "feminine" in this episode?

This was better than the episode that aired last week. It was more humorous (though, I wouldn't say it was hilarious), returning to the quirkiness the series is known for. I mean, Dr. Venture being invited to a party by his new rival, and the brothers and the hench men discussing video game noises while being chased through a maze by two small men with knives? Now that's classic Venture Bros.

And was it just me, or did Dr. Venture's... black censor box shrink when he got into the hot tub?

I'll remember Doc V getting shot with a rubber bullet - and bleeding - as Brock (already covered in blood) momentarily freaks out

    "Bring out the nerfs!"

I laughed way too hard at Dr. Girlfriend's reaction when it turned out her "character" was Jackie Onassis.

That was my favorite part. I guess I'm just a sucker for character parodies.

And I guess we can rule out Dr. Girlfriend being pregnant, since she's smoking in this episode. I don't think she'd intentionally kill her baby, no matter who the father is. So I guess it's something else she said.

Ha, I've gone from someone who didn't know squat about music a few years ago to someone who's getting music references in The Venture Bros! The line about a "Town Called Malice" is from a song by.... was it XTC? Lets see Wikipedia... ah, it was The Jam. Oh well.

Great episode. I think this is shaping up to be the best season yet. They've really hit their stride.
