This arc is called the Oceans Dream Arc and tells the story of what would happen if the Straw Hat Crew lost their memories, but with a crew the memories that bond the crew go missing, will this really be the end of the straw hat pirates?(Well no, but it is a interesting concept to watch.)

Here's something interesting to note about tonight's filler arc...

It's the only one based on a video game! Specifically One Piece: Ocean's Dream!, which came out in May 2003 on the PS1.

Whoah, that's cool. I didn't know that. Hmm, maybe some other Shonen anime should try that.

And tonight we begin the Ocean's Dream filler arc. The arc has remained unseen by me, so I can't attest to its quality. However, I have heard that this arc explores the history and backstories of the characters, so to all you newbies out there, this may be a great opportunity to discover exactly what makes the Strawhats tick (though, still, I can't recommend watching/reading the original canon story arcs enough).

    @ Nobodyman:

Took the words right out my mouth. Although I would add that if for whatever reason no one here in the forum or otherwise were able to invest the time in catching up the episodes, this filler arc would make eh..... I guess a spark notes version of the One Piece story for now. Firecrouch argued otherwise a while back, but from tonight onward, we'll find out how helpful this will really be for newcomers. Also:

From one filler arc... to another.

This makes the Odyssey look streamlined and focused.

Previously on One Piece: Luffy finally delivers a knockout to Foxy. And sorry Foxy's crew, but you're just not Strawhat material.

Memories, all alone in the moonlight.

Man, the animation in this episode is wonky.

Wow, those pretty sweet rooms for a Pirate vessel. I thought the ship in Golden Sun: the Lost Age was nice.

Uh oh... someone just stole their memories. Star Trek TNG plot #45

So everyone's lost their memories up to the point where they joined the crew.

And now you see Usopp's penchant for tall tales.

Something to do with that flute-player in the opening, I imagine.

This could have some neat potential. Lost memories, paranoia, existential questions... it's like something out of a PKD story.

The animation director for this episode was Eisaku Inoue who, at the time, was one of the few ADs that stuck closer to Oda Eichiro's original designs. Still, this episode is more reflective of his general linework. Beginning with Water Seven his episodes are given a high quality key animation staff making his episodes look excellent. At this point I think Toei was still sorting out which animation directors and KA staff would benefit the veteran animators and bring out the best overall quality for the series.

    Back then...
