I was in Japan when this episode first aired. Started watching the show regularly since then.
Which I admit, was pretty stupid since I barely understood what was going on.

Previously on One Piece: Aokiji gives Luffy the cold shoulder (and the cold everything for that matter). Also, a frog and a train.

Yep, that was a train on the ocean. And the frog willingly stood in front of it.

So for those of you who claim that Oda's women all look the same, well....

"City of Meat, here we come!"

No Luffy, I think you're thinking of Toriko's world (speaking of which, I still need to see those crossovers).

Chimney: "My name is Chimney, and this is my kitty kat Gonbei.

...........Kitty kat, sure. And Rice Crackers are cookies and riceballs are jelly donuts.

I didn't say ALL women. I said most (I think... yeah, I'm sure I did.)

I still haven't seen a hint of "it." Just a bunch of random people and areas.

Two minutes in and we see a granny drunk off her ass, this is already off to a good start.

That's pretty much how all One Piece arcs start. Trust me, it all comes together later.

Was this ever confirmed in an SBS or something whether Water 7 was inspired by Venice, Italy?

Can't remember if it was ever specifically stated, but I think the inspiration is pretty obvious. And Oda has a tendency to base his settings on real-life locations (Skypiea/Mayans, Dressrosa/Rome)

I can only say that the Minas Tirith design doesn't work very well on water...

Well that's kind of normal for artists in general to be inspired that way. I've learned in art school that drawing from life is the best way to improve your skills and expand your knowledge.
I mean cities in the Pokemon movies were inspired off of various European cities. If I recall correctly, one of the movies had its setting inspired off of a city in Greece.

I thought that this was a pretty decent episode. The idea of a train crossing through the ocean like that was cool and while the grandmother giving them a bad map because of being drunk was obvious, it was kind of funny. I really like the design of Water 7. You can really see the inspiration from Venice, Italy and it looked beautiful. Chopper wanting to go with Robin to a bookstore is just far too cute and Luffy showing how much gold they did have because the man didn't believe him was pretty funny. Overall, it was a pretty decent episode. Hopefully, the next episode will be more fun to watch. I'm curious how much of an emotional ride this arc will be considering how much I've heard about it.

Nothing special in this episode. They just got to the new island and stuff. It seemed pretty dull for the most part too.

Well, I wish this episode had gotten a better reaction out of you guys, but I guess I can't deny it wasn't exactly the most thrilling or eventful episode.

What's interesting though is that, going the manga, this episode actually shows events out of sequence. Before the whole business with the Yagara Bulls, the manga introduced several characters who will play a big role in this arc. I wonder if maybe that would've been a better way to end the episode and entice the viewer.

Oh well. You'll get to see them next week at any rate.
