And yet he's always two steps behind.

How many fake inspectors are we going to get this week?

Will the real Inspector Zenigata please stand up?

Okay, we're getting an overdose of sexism this week. At least we're not supposed to identify with this guy.

I'll be sure to post my 2 cents in the JJBA thread later.

First time I'v ever seen Zenigata get his hands on Lupin ... Thought Elena was going to have to fake her own death.

So how many plot reversals are we getting in this episode?

And Goemon is missing yet again.

    Oh... that plot twist.

Oh, another twist. Lupin was ahead of the game.

Oh, a third twist. Zenigata stuck around.

A whole lotta twists and turns this episode. And disguises.

A lot of people have probably been spoiled by most of the Lupin III movies and the second series when it comes to Goemon's character.

When it comes to Goemon, while he is a major character, he's not one of the "core" characters (i.e. the other major characters in the franchise). As such, there are going to be those episodes where he doesn't show up. Heck, the character doesn't even appear in the first anime until the fifth episode.

Does anyone else feel like Lupin and company are taking a back seat in their own show?

Yeah, there tends to be more focus on the characters of the episode more so than on them. That can work sometimes, but it's still a much different show than I expected from the first episode.

Anyway, I thought that this episode was pretty good. Zenigata getting some attention was good and I thought that meant we'd get a more comedic episode, but not really. He did seem to be more competent than I was expecting and figured out that something was up from just a small detail in Fujiko's act. I felt bad for the widower since not only did she have to work as a sex worker from apparently a young age, but her late husband scared her after cheating. That was just brutal and disturbing to watch. The helicopter scene was kind of funny at least.

There were a lot more twists than I was expecting in this episode and even a victory for Zenigata. He figured that Lupin wouldn't be in on the act out of the goodness of his heart and he figured he'd go for the gold as soon as the widower went to the fortune. At least she got a happy ending, or as much of a happy ending as going into politics can be. Overall, it was a pretty good episode.
