I don't intend on doing all of the talkbacks for this series, but I figure I would get the ball rolling at least, so here goes.

    [IMG][IMG]

    Episode 1:
"Bust Through the Heavens With Your Drill"

Opening Theme: "Sorairo Days" by Shoko Nakagawa
Ending Theme: "Underground" by High Voltage
If you have never seen this series before, prepare yourselves for some thrilling giant robot action courtesy of GAINAX (the people who brought us Evangelion and FLCL) and the people behind this show, Hiroyuki Imaishi and Kazuki Nakashima (both of whom would go on to make another series called Kill la Kill).

    This time:
Living underground in Giha Village, Simon and Kamina dream of a life on the surface. When their home is invaded from above, it is up to them to activate the mysterious mecha Lagann and save their village.

WARNING: Absolutely NO SPOILERS are allowed beyond this point! I repeat. NO SPOILERS, or you will be sentenced to a life of digging underneath the surface forever.

Oh, and one last thing before anyone asks this later: Simon's name is supposed to be pronounced as "SEE-mon", not "SAI-mon".

Thank you and enjoy the show!

Yes, I can make so many references to a Science Fiction writer few people have ever read :D

I like the show, but I think staying up until 2 AM for reruns on a Saturday is ridiculous so I'll be skipping over this run.

And now we finally get a GOOD show from Aniplex (although it's technically Bandai, but they're gone, so whatever).

Does anyone else wish Toonami should've just skipped Blue Exorcist and jumped straight to this show? They could've saved us half a year of mediocrity.

Oh yeah, time for one of the best mecha anime ever! For those of you seeing it for the first time, you're in for a surprise!

With that said, the awesome stuff won't come in for a few episodes, so bear with it.

Not sure if I'm going to watch this tonight, or really keep up with it at all, but I'm glad to see GL finally come to the block. I hope you first-time viewers enjoy it.

What!? NO WAY, there is most certainly awesomeness to be found in the early days of this series. It's just that gets to a point where it's perpetually escalating.

For those who know the Gainax OVA Gunbuster, I see this crazy show as a spiritual successor to it in a lot of ways. Well worth following.

Exponentially, even. That's how a drill works. I love how far the spiral theme of this show extends, to even that kind of meta level.

So, Aniplex of America's current track record on Adult Swim:

    Durarara!! - AWESOME BEYOND WORDS
Sword Art Online - HORRIBLE BEYOND BELIEF
    Blue Exorcist - MEDIOCRE BEYOND...something

At least I have the advantage of already having seen this one.

I'm debating whether or not to participate in these talkbacks, since I was there when it aired on Siffy and I'd hate to repeat any gags.

Ah well, may as well introduce this one...

FROM THE DIRECTOR OF DEAD LEAVES, KILL LA KILL AND PANTY AND STOCKING WITH GARTERBELT...

So Simon, is that a drill in your hand, or are you happy to be on Toonami?

Ehhh, maybe I could do some Attack on Titan jokes. The plot is essentially the same.

How do they take out the debris they drill? A hand drill isn't going to do that.
