    Last time:

Christmas was actually a pagan holiday celebrating the winter solstice that was usurped by the Christian church and retooled to honor Jesus' birth, although many old pagan rituals such as decorating trees, Yule logs and gift-giving survive to this day. (In fact, it was because of these rituals that many Protestant groups, including the Puritans, outlawed celebrating it.) The Bible doesn't specifically say that Jesus was born on December 25th, or even in winter for that matter.

Last time: A Very Merry Un-Birthday to You and You and You and You (except for Izumo, whom the birthday party was originally supposed to be for, until she ruined the surprise part).

This time: The church is under attack .... by what exactly?

Did a giant enemy spider do this?

Under attack? Looks more like someone forgot to dust.

Some Polish spider wants to kill Rin?

Figures we would see Neuhaus again so soon.

Yukio actually shot his own brother ..... with a tranquilizer bullet. Do they actually sell those kind of things?

Yes, our trusty caged snake is never wrong.

    "Want more demon-killing?"

Why yes, that would be quite a thing for them to show in Blue Exorcist.

Down, Fido. Stay inside. And don't mess the carpet while I'm gone.

    Oh, so it WAS him?

    Fly, my Things, FLY!

Yeah, there's been a lot of that going around.

(Okay, somehow my last post disappeared.)

Down, Fido. Stay inside. And don't soil the carpet while I'm gone.

    Fly, my Things, FLY!

Yeah, there's a lot of that going around.

Finally, the candle metaphor is explained.

Oh dear. It's someone in the school.

Why do they want to kill the Son of Satan? He's just a kid. Kids can't help where they come from.

    Foiled again, Penguin!

A visitor for Yukio. Who could it be?

A masked Cardinal who happens to be his grandfather.

Something tells me this is not good.

I thought that this episode was pretty good. I forgot all about the other people at the church that Rin and Yukio grew up with since they've been focused more on their father than any of them. I thought that Yukio's desire to protect Rin was understandable, but he seemed more determined about it than usual, especially with shooting him like that and heading into the building with the hostages. It might have something to do with the marks on Yukio's arms that showed up when he was testing his blood a few episodes ago. I liked the scene with Shura telling Rin to focus his flames. It seemed like a fairly nice moment for Rin to finally learn recognize how important it is to control his flames since he seemed to complain about that training every time it came up before.

I figured that the webs would burn off the moment his flames came out. I also thought it was kind of a nice touch that he was training with three candles and there were initially three hostages before Yukio was captured. I also wasn't expecting the person underneath that mask to be a woman, let alone that teacher's wife. The ending with Yukio meeting someone who is suppose to be his grandfather was kind of a surprising note to end of. Overall, I thought it was a pretty good episode. There were some decent bits of action and some nice moments for Rin. I'm still kind of surprised that this is twenty episodes in when it doesn't feel like they've made a lot of progress for being so close to the end of the series.
