Cartoon Brew reports that longtime animation producer Buzz Potamkin passed away on April 22, 2012, from pancreatic cancer. Potamkin's animation career began in 1968, when he founded Perpetual Motion Pictures in 1968, producing television commercials including a famous Hawaiian Punch campaign and, in 1981, the "I Want My MTV" ad campaign. Success with The Berenstain Bears Christmas Tree led to the studio branching out into TV cartoons based on the children's book franchise. He also founded and ran Southern Star Productions, which produced TV series such as CBS Storybreak and Teen Wolf, and was the producer of Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue. Potamkin began working at Hanna-Barbera from 1991-1996, where he led the unit that produced the "What a Cartoon" shorts, in turn leading to several successful series on Cartoon Network, including Johnny Bravo, Dexter's Laboratory, Cow and Chicken, and The Powerpuff Girls.
