Not sure if this edit to my post above was noticed. Since we're talking box office, the first link in the quote above is from February, and the second is Hughes review of the movie, though the first page is about his expectations for box office (both this weekend and overall).

this should be an interesting talkback considering all the mixed opinions about how good and bad it is.

I would argue that an AoU type box office run is probably its ceiling as opposed to the minimum amount money it should make. Unlike YA novels, comic book movies are not critic proof and typically the Rotten Tomato meter has been a good barometer of how healthy a CBM's box office run will be like and that's probably why all of us make such a big deal about what the critics have to say about them. There's no doubt Dawn of Justice will make money, the question is though, how far will it fall off the cliff in its second week? We're well into a decade and a half of this comic book movie craze and the general audience has gotten more sophisticated in there taste. They'll go watch the movie, because Dawn of Justice has been billed as an event for the last year, but if the audience feels like social media (i.e the critics) is on the money that this movie is garbage then don't assume its going to make an easy billion.

^Yeah, remember, Man of Steel was supposed to be critic proof and yet it took a much bigger hit in its second weekend than original projected. Partially due to the increasingly negative reviews and bad word of mounth
