All rules in the general board FAQ apply at the Anime Forum. If you haven't read them yet, read them now. As always, feel free to contact any of your Anime Forum Moderators if you have any questions.

    Anime Forum Rules:

    * Because the Anime Mods feel it to be a sufficiently important rule to observe, be advised that we reserve the right to ban members after only TWO instances of flaming instead of the normal three.

    * Please keep all criticism of Disney and other Western animation polite and intelligent. Spelling Disney as "Di$ney" is strongly discouraged.

    * Along the same lines, please do not frequent these boards only to bash anime. If you do not like anime, you do not belong here. If you have an intelligent criticism of a particular title, on the other hand, we welcome you to share it with us.

    * Threads dedicated to the discussion of anime currently being shown on Toonami or Adult Swim should be directed to their proper forums, while threads dedicated to the discussion of anime currently being shown elsewhere on Cartoon Network should be directed to that forum. Gray areas (such as anime scheduled but not yet aired on Cartoon Network, or anime previously but not currently aired) will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

    * No discussion of hentai will be permitted. Discussion of fan service and other risque material must remain tasteful and meaningful at all times.

    * Regarding spoilers:

    * If a thread has a spoiler warning in the title [ex: "Neon Genesis Evangelion Talkback (SPOILERS)"] then spoilers about that series can be included without spoiler tags, but spoilers about other series cannot.
    * If a talkback thread for a specific episode or week of episodes from a series has a spoiler warning in the title [ex: "Tech TV Anime Unleashed Talkback: Week of 12/30/02 (SPOILERS)"] then spoilers for episodes aired that week or previously on the same network can be included without spoiler tags, but not spoilers for future episodes not yet aired.
    * Otherwise, all spoilers must be in spoiler tags.
    * Also, it is considered common courtesy to let other board members know what series and episode a spoiler is from outside of the spoiler tag if it's not obvious from the context of the thread. This lets them know whether they want to read that spoiler or not.

    For example:

    (Episode III, The Big O)

    * To put text in a spoiler box, simply enclose it in spoiler tags: (spoiler)This is a spoiler.(/spoiler) but using square brackets [] in place of parentheses (). For additional reasons on why you should use always spoiler tags read the story of Paco.

[BOX="RED"]* As part of Toonzone's strict anti-piracy policy, no discussion of illegally obtaining copyrighted material will be permitted. THIS INCLUDES FANSUBS AND SCANLATIONS. You may discuss the contents of anime and manga you have seen in fansub or scanlation form, but you may not discuss the fact that it was a fansub or a scanlation you were watching/reading.

    Examples:

Bad: “I downloaded lots of live action Sailor Moon from Bit Torrent the other day.”

Good: “I watched lots of live action Sailor Moon the other day.”

    Bad:“Who is fansubbing Fantasmanimelandshow 3?”

Bad: "Why hasn't [ultrakly] scans uploaded the new chapter of Hecksang?"

Good: Doing a Google search on your own or e-mail/PM someone who would know.

Bad: “RoXXoR Fansubs is working on Fantasmanimelandshow 3.”

Bad: "Check out this rapidshare/flickr/photobucket gallery with the scanlations of Welcome to the PBS!"

Good: E-mail the person you want to say that to, or don't say it.
    [/BOX]

    * This item is included only because it comes up so often in discussion. The word "cartoon" is, among other things, defined as "a film made by photographing a series of drawings to give the illusion of movement when projected in rapid sequence." Therefore, the word "cartoon" DOES apply to anime. You do not have to use this word if you do not wish to, but all threads on the subject will be closed, and those insisting that others make a distinction between cartoons and anime in their posts will be warned if they make nuisances of themselves.

    Addendum: Public Threats

    * No public threats of bodily harm against anyone, including licensing companies and employees.

With several more anti-4Kids threads going right now, people seem to think that's it's OK to post paragraph-long rants about how they're going to kill everyone who changes something in their favorite show. This is the Internet. As such, no one can really tell if you're serious or not. Threats (even if meant as jokes) like this could conceivably cause severe problems for you and Toon Zone as a whole, and as such, they will stop. They're cartoons, guys. Take a deep breath and think before you type.

    Addendum #2: Concerning Edits

    Concerning Edits
It has been confirmed with a fair degree of certainty that representatives of certain television networks (most notably Cartoon Network) sometimes read these forums. There have been a few instances in which people have expressed surprise on these boards that some content slipped by the censors before an anime aired on television, and afterwards that content was conspicuously absent in subsequent airings.
Most of us agree that censorship of anime is a bad thing, and as such, speculation on possible edits to anime that have not yet aired on television is strictly forbidden. Simply put, we don't want to do the censors' jobs for them and point out content that might otherwise be aired. If an anime has already aired on television, discussion of edits is permitted, but discussion of questionable content that was not edited is not.

    Examples:

    Bad:
"I'm sure they'll have to put a digibikini over the rear-end shot in Episode 420 of Hypotheticalmon, and they'll probably change the wine to grape Kool-Aid, too."

    Bad:
"Holy crap, did you see last night's episode of Superrisqueanime on Anime Unleashed?! You could see like 3/4 of that chick's nipple, and they didn't blur it or anything!"

    Good:
Silence is golden. If you must discuss it, do it over PM, e-mail, or instant messaging, where those nasty censors can't see it.

    * - Posts in talkback threads for television airings must relate directly to the material from that airing. Any other posts will be considered off-topic and will be deleted.

Good: "That part where Bob gives Hubert a wedgie was edited out. Man! And that was my favorite part, too!"

Bad: "This version of Series X SUCKS. The original was WAAAY better."

Note: The post doesn't have to be entirely about the episode in question. It simply has to make the current episode a part of the argument.

Good: "This show is really not that good. Take for instance what happened back in episode 3, when Bob ate some raw fish. That was gross. Then, in episode 12 he urped up his string beans. This episode added on to those problems when Gloria decided to throw pieces of her organs on everyone. Why do I even bother watching?"

Addendum #3: YouTube Doesn't Make It OK.

Barring things like AMVs, fan parodies, openings, endings and promos/ads, anything on YouTube/Google Video/Any Flash-Based Video site that is not explicitly cleared by the US and/or Japanese licensors is forbidden to be posted on the Anime Forum, particularly full-length episodes that were not posted by the Japanese and/or US licensors. It doesn't matter it's raw, subbed or dubbed, if it's a whole episode or even a particularly extensive clip, if it has not been given clearance to be online by the companies who own said show, it's not allowed, and yes, even suggesting that someone look for said illegal material on youtube or a similar service counts too.

    Examples:
Good - Hey guys, check out this cool promo for an upcoming anime series I found on YouTube!

Good - I found a fairly amusing AMV from The LiveJournal-Drama of Suzumiya Haruko set to Particle Man on Google Video!

Good - Funimutation just uploaded the last episode of King Jellyfish to their corporate YouTube account.

Good - Anime Snooze Network just put up another simulcast episode Puella Magi Magical Maddow on their legal streaming site.

Bad - Hey guys, check out episode 193 of Popular Shonen Action Show on YouTube uploaded by some random fansub group!

Bad - Hey guys, here's an episode of Toast In The Shell on Google Video!

Basically, the anti-piracy rules that apply already to other means of piracy here on Toon Zone and the Anime Forum apply to YouTube and the services like it. If you have something you want to link to or even just suggest looking up from one of these services and you're not sure whether it's ok, ask first before posting it - PM or email one of this forum's mods.

    Addendum #4: List Threads

Sometimes, you'll come across a thread which seems to encourage the posting of lists. If you must post a list thread, please remember that we're looking for DISCUSSION, not just making lists for the sake of making lists. Each and every entry in the list must be accompanied by some sort of discussion or justification.

This same rule also applies if you are replying to a list thread.

    Bad:

    Good:

List posts in otherwise useful threads will be deleted. Pokes or warnings will be handed out as necessary. Threads composed almost entirely of list posts will likewise be closed or deleted.
