Sí, you read right. Fidel Castro, former President of Cuba, has passed away yesterday. Tenía noventa años.

I was surprised when I heard of this story last night, I just don't know what to really think of this.

Honestly until last year, I thought he died a long time ago.

A living relic of the Cold War is dead. The man was a tyrant, a cad who took down a dictator only to become one, probably murdered thousands, and brutalized many. It was just that there were plenty of other sadistic and violent dictators and tyrants of the 20th century that made Castro look civilized. In a sea of savages, a barbarian is a lesser evil.

I'm not always the best to talk about politics, but I have mixed feelings.

I appreciate some things, free quality education and healthcare are something everybody should have. Cuba has actually a really high IDH and life expectancy ,one of the higest in latin america, and I admire standing against the us. Plus, Batista was worse than him in my opinion.

However, he was a corrupt tyrant and cruel dictator who killed tons of people, and no matter what your political views are, that is unjustifiable, not to mention the lack of freedom Cubans have. (one could raise the argument, however, that the same thing in different levels happens in many supposed "democratic" countries, not having the freedom to access basic human rights (when will most countries understand that education and healthcare should be human rights and not consumer goods?), and having tons of people get marginalized for economic, social and even race issues, making them live in places where danger is permanent, and being killed is an everydays chance)

I hope Cuba gets its democracy sooner than later, but I hope that the few good things that happened with Castro remain, and that the US imperialism and its flaws keeps being questioned.

Really pay tribute to a madman to put it mildly. What was the PM thinking?
