    Full article.

EDIT: ABC is reviving it instead. The show returns next year.

Here's my response: Why revive the show so soon? And also why NBC? Since The Voice was responsible for American Idol's downfall.

Please wait until we have a chance to miss a show before you try to revive it. Thank you.

They're saying that the show hasn't been off air long enough for people to want it back.

So many of these shows on so many stations in so many countries for so many years. Idol, Talent, X Factor, Voice, Eurovision. Basically one and the same and way past their hey day. It was a cool concept at first, but 10+ years later it's just boring. NBC must be quite desperate to be considering bringing the Idol back.

No Simon Colwell = No interest.

Guys, we're a long way from 2000 - 2004 (the Idol Golden Age)...I just can't imagine this being successful.

    NO!

These singing competition shows NEED to die!

    What happened to NBC?

Their network decay is even worse then that of Disney Channel, CN, & I can't believe I'm saying this...

    Nickelodeon!

Plus they have been relying on ONE creator for over 20 years!

Keep relying on Dick Wolf NBC and see where it gets you!

Eurovision is at least entertaining because the acts go from "oh, just another terrible ballad" to "what in God's name is this" with the occasional actually good song in between.

(The UK always picks horrible musicians though, as evidenced by the past few years. Bonnie Tyler? Seriously?)

The Voice is still a ratings hit for NBC.

Wolf's crime dramas and police procedurals are still doing well for NBC.

That is partly the reason why the UK have poor results, placing close to last this decade with the only exception being Blue finishing 11th in 2011, which remains the UK's best result since finishing fifth in 2009.

I thought this article was a joke at first, then I realized it wasn't April 1st...

This is baffling to me. Why? Why would anyone want American Idol? That show was a boat anchor around Fox's ankle for a good three five years. Yes, American Idol was unquestionably the show of the 2000s, and it deserves to be respected for that. But the 2000s are over, and that show had been falling down the stairs ratings wise for quite some time. Even the series finale, which was hyped as the final chapter in a television legend, only managed to get a tiny fraction of the viewers that the show used to get weekly. The days of those singing competitions are largely over, with The Voice being the only exception. The days of Idol are long over, and I don't know if they'll ever come back. The only potential way that Idol could ever come back is to wait another 10-15 years, and allow people to become nostalgic for the original show, though even that's not a guaranteed thing. Nostalgic television revivals can sometimes garner good ratings (The X-Files), or fall flat (Knight Rider). Really, it's best to let it rest. The show hasn't been popular for the last few years, and a move to NBC isn't going to change that.

Well, a revival is happening, but not on NBC. It's going to be on ABC instead.

I'm not going to comment much on this except for one thing: Channing Dungey said that it left the air too toon, except it ran for almost 14 years, so I hardly see how it left too soon.

Well, Ryan Seacrest was right all along that it was the end of American Idol for now in the final episode of the original Fox run.

Makes sense that NBC would pass - they have "The Voice". Also makes sense that ABC would take it up - they've been wanting to get in on the "singing competition" shows for a while (their previous efforts include "Rising Star" from a couple years back).

But it's still way too soon, for a revival, I feel...

The show was just taken off life support two years ago. There is no real nostalgia value that'll get people tuning in.

If it comes back now, the majority of people will just be like "Wow, that's still on?"

With Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan as the new judges and Ryan Seacrest returning to host.

That premiere isn't that far away from when it use to premiere back in Fox, it is good to see it premiere around March.
