Yes, they constantly talk like this. That is so [insert thing that was popular in the early 2000's here], bro! As the series goes on the dialogue gets less cringeworthy, but there are still poser-like attempts to be "hip" -- for example they always refer to their parents as "rents," which....stop that, nobody does that, you're not cool!

Also, after doing the research for this page, now I can't stop repeating "Get out! That is so CSI, Nico!" everywhere I go.

Also: "Let's get down (and by that I'm referring to the TV show The Get Down which was annoyingly cancelled after one season)".

And "You've been watching too many WB shows, bro" is actually kind of sad now...

"It can't get any worse than spiders doing bakesales." (Undertale reference. Slightly more obscure but it kinda fits)

"I'm pretty sure I've heard that word before, but I'd need a good search engine to confirm it. ....Guess we're SOL without DSL." --Gert, issue 7

That actually makes me sad; one of my favorite search engines closed last month. We need more than one or two ways to access information on the web. :/

"My AIM handle is Sister Grimm. I guess that works." --Nico, issue 6

My excite name is stillbuyvhs. Tried to get an AOL account, but they wanted my phone number.

    "Fighting Foodons!" --Molly, issue 2

    Was that ever really popular?

"I'll get everybody's e-mail addies before they take off. We can all meet up later tonight." --Alex, issue 2

Did anyone ever use "addies" as a short form of addresses? I hope not.

"Whoa, it's like a whole season of Antiques Roadshow down here." --Karolina, issue 2

I actually like that line. Antiques Roadshow is still running.

I actually had to look up Fighting Foodons to get the reference. Turns out I might have heard about it in passing as a kid in the early Noughties. It turns out Foodons was on the 4kids "Fox Box" block - along with the butchered dub of One Piece.

I have no idea, but it made me laugh, so it went in. Not enough references to Fighting Foodons in the culture right now.

Yes, they did. Unlike "rents," I heard "E-mail addy" a lot.

I get the feeling that the use of 'fleek' will date it even faster.

And that password bit had me rolling (not so much the bit itself as your reaction).
