This is awesome news. I'll probably watch some of the marathon during the days.

So are they going to play every episode? I wonder how many brave souls are going to dare to watch the whole thing.

I believe it is humanly impossible to stay awake for 11.5 days straight.

It could kind of be done if someone dvr's it and eliminates all commercials. That would give them enough time to sleep, eat and possibly even take a shower if so inclined.
It would still be 11.5 days dedicated to watching the Simpsons and not think about anything else.
This could lead to a condition I predict will be known as "The Simpsons Crazies."

They're calling the marathon ''The Summer of Love''. It'll air in one 4-hour block for 12 days, starting August 21.

If the episodes aired continously, it would only last about two days.

Doesn't FXX also air infomercials? I'd think they wouldn't air them over those.

Well, that's disappointing. So the marathon'll actually only be 96 episodes rather than 552?

They'll show all 552 episodes during the marathons. They said that in the press release.

Chalk the bad math up to ''I wasn't thinking'' territory.

They won't just air 2 days of episodes anyway. Again, bad math. Here's some math of if all 552 episodes aired continously:

    24 divided by 2 - 48 eps a day.
    48 + 48 + 48 + 48 + 48 + 48 + 48 + 48 + 48 + 48 + 48 + 48 =
    192 - 4
    384 - 8
    433 - 9
    481 - 10
    530 - 11
    552 - 12
Don't know what they'll do with the remaining hours of Day 12.
So... yeah. I guess they will air 552 episodes continously... or they'll air 4 hours (8 episodes worth) of episodes a day. I don't know.

Four hours isn't a marathon. That's how many hours I expect they may air The Simpsons in a typical day after the marathon. TNT has Bones on four hours a day. Today FXX has 2 hours of The Hughleys and 6.5 hours of X-Men movies.
A four hour block of Simpsons would not be something to brag about.

In my day we had something on each side of the equal sign.

552 episodes times 30 minutes per episode divided 60 minutes per hour divided by 24 hours in a day equals 11.5 days.
    552 x 30 / 60 / 24 = 11.5

    Whereas:
4 hours times 2 episodes per hour times 12 days equals 96 episodes.

    Does not compute.

And technically, I think the results are in units of episode days.

I don't care all that much about this show, anymore - but I have to ask.... Is there really a point to doing all of this?!

Because they paid at least $750 Million for the airing rights and it gets FXX (which is still in its infancy as a network) a ton of publicity.

That's true. I'm not a fan of marathons (at all), but is there a better way for FXX to introduce The Simpsons to their network and draw any attention to FXX? I can't really think of one.

Will these be the complete episodes or have syndication edits?
