This movie is coming out in a few months, but I had only just heard of it. It doesn’t seem like too many people here are looking forward to this one; there was a thread made back in 2007, but it only received a handful of replies. Regardless, the first picture is now online and I think it looks rather interesting.

What do you all think about the first picture?

To be honest, it looks more like puppets than animation.

I'm looking forward to it mostly to see how Wes Anderson fares doing something different from his usual style. Can't really say much else until I see the trailer.

Wes Anderson's cinematography is usually more than top notch, so I can't wait to see more pics.

I've been looking forward to this film ever since I first heard about it; it's hard to go wrong with a Roald Dahl story.

Even so, I think it's weird that the release date is only four months away and we don't even have a teaser. All we have is a title card and one still image. When are we going to get a trailer?

Wes' name will get me to sit through this...but it's a decidedly bizarre and risky choice (regardless of whether it was deliberate or not) to style the film in such a way. I'm not particularly a fan of it. There's hardly any expression in the character's faces nor any liveliness in their movement. It all comes across as super wooden and stale; not good qualities for a medium that thrives off the portrayal of visual information.

Voice acting is full of 'big names', which is also a slight annoyance...but they all sound rather good in the trailer so I guess it works out.

Jumped down my list of "can't wait to see" projects quit a bit though...

Heh, someone in other board said that the animation style is meant to reflect how it would look if a Child was visualizing the book they where reading.

    Could it be?

It looks like it's going be really funny. It seems like there's some other stuff happening in the movie that's not focused on in the trailer. Yes I know trailers don't show you the whole thing, I was just making an observation.

The animation made me think of Team America, Mr. Bill, and Meet the Feebles. I kept waiting for something incredibly crude, violent, and offensive to happen.

There was some complaining about not using British VAs, but the team they have sounds pretty good. In fact, the whole thing looks good so far.

Well, the TV campaign has started.

When I first saw the trailer, I was like , and . But after a couple more viewings, it was :D.

It just looks so unusual. I love it!

Frankly, I think the trailers look just awful. The puppets look like they came from a taxidermist's studio. Their herky-jerky movements are not exactly equal to the splendors of The Corpse Bride or Nightmare Before Christmas. I watched the latest trailer in creep-out disbelief. EW. The cast makes me think of animated roadkill.

No, I will not be seeing this. :ack:

I've read the book and was quite intrigued by the fact that it would have a movie. But after watching the trailer, colour me a bit skeptical despite the name Wes Anderson. I dunno, something about George Clooney's portrayal as Mr. Fox seems rather... off-putting and needlessly smug (compared to if I remember correctly the book's version who was wry, charming, and cunning, but not AS smug). Then there's the fact that there's too much of a "Ocean's Eleven with animals vibe" I'm getting from this. Most definitely a fair comparison and kinda deserving of that distinction, but I kinda want to see it as its own movie and not like that.

That said, I will wait and see if Mr. Fox lives up to what he's usually described as.

I saw the trailer before Ponyo and the animation literally hurt my eyes. Granted, I was sitting near the front, but still, even if I were sitting farther back, it's pretty choppy movement, which is a shame. There have been smooth stop motion films (such as the aforementioned Nightmare Before Christmas) but this doesn't appear to be one of them.

Sorry, Wes, better to go back making R-rated movies.

In fact, it kinda would've been better if this movie was actually rated R for the sake of something different, but since it was PG, I sorta lost interest.

It also doesn't help that the stop motion looks pretty cheap and it seems to look like it was rushed.

So the rating really matters that much to you (even though most of Anderson's previous movies were barely even R-level in content)?
