Welcome to a new game for Animated DCU fans. I’m looking for “distant connections” between two relatively unconnected characters in the animated DCU, through other characters they have met, fought, have a friend/family relation with, or share the same voice actor.

Of course, to make this challenging, these other characters cannot be Superman, Batman, Beyond Batman, other Justice League members, or their secret identities . (Other “off-limits” characters may also be indicated in the “connection question” itself).

Note that this game is called “N Degrees of Separation” -- that’s N as in “Number .” Each question must list the number of connections to be made between the characters, as should the answer.

Example 1: Connect Darkseid and Ras A Ghul with 5 degrees of separation.

    Darkseid
    1. _______
    2. _______
    3. _______
    4. _______
    5. Ras A Ghul

    Answer:

    1. Darkseid’s Earth agent/minion is Manheim
    2. Manheim was a target of the Toyman in “Fun and Games”
    3. Toyman kidnapped Lois in “Fun and Games”
    4. Lois was “replaced” by Talia in “The Demon Reborn”
    5. Talia is the daughter of Ras A Ghul

Example 2: Connect Simon Trent/Gray Ghost and Dana Tan with 3 degrees of separation

    Simon Trent/Gray Ghost
    1. _______
    2. _______
    3. Dana Tan

    Answer:
    1. Gray Ghost fought the Mad Bomber in “Beware the Gray Ghost”
    2. The Mad Bomber was voiced by Bruce Timm, who also voiced the Jokerz Gang Leader in “Rebirth I”
    3. The Jokerz Gang Leader grabbed Dana Tan in “Rebirth I”

Of course, there may be more than one possible answer, but as long as you explain each connection (especially with an episode reference) then it’s acceptable.

    Now, you try:

Connect Solomon Grundy and Ace the Bathound with 4 degrees of separation
    Solomon Grundy
    1. _______
    2. _______
    3. _______
    4. Ace the Bathound

Keep in mind which characters cannot be used. Good luck.

Whoever makes the first correct connection is free to create the next one.

Solomon Grundy's voice actor was Mark Hamill, who voiced the Joker who was seen with Ace in the Batcave.
    Grundy
    Mark Hamill
    Joker
    Ace the Bathound.

    I can do one better:

    1. Solomon Grundy
    2. The Joker (in INJUSTICE FOR ALL with Grundy)
    3. Ace (in ROTJ with the Joker)

But I guess that DarkKnight can ask the next one. These don't HAVE to be in less than four degrees though, do they?

Well, I was looking for four exactly. And my example didn't include the voice actor as a degree. You need to fill in all three blanks.

    Solomon Grundy
    1. _______
    2. _______
    3. _______
    4. Ace the Bathound

    Ok then, how about this.

Solomon Grundy beat the living crap out of Superman in "Injustice For All Part I"
Superman and Batman teamed up against Lex Luthor and The Joker in World's Finest
The Joker used Smilex on Bruce Wayne in Return of the Joker
    Bruce Wayne owns Ace

    1. Solomon Grundy
    2. Superman
    3. The Joker
    4. Bruce Wayne
    5. Ace the Bathound

Uh, Venom, Batman and Superman are off limits to use. So should I ask one?

Oh crap! I missed that part (stupid tired eyes!). This one is going to be harder then I thought. I have to go think now.

Also, the question has been up for about a day, I think we should give it more time before making another question, don't you?

The first question hasn't been correctly answered yet (DK and Tim had too few degrees, but I'll supply a hint:

    Solomon Grundy
    1. _______
    2. _______
    3. Ace (robot from RFG)
    4. Ace the Bathound

    That should help, yes?

    Solomon Grundy
    Joker
    The Jokerz gang
    Ace the robot
    Ace the Bathound

    Hows that?

Did the Jokerz Gang from ROTJ meet Ace the Robot? The "inspiration" connection between Joker and the non-ROTJ Jokerz doesn't count.

    But you're getting close.

Note: Hey guys, after this particular question is solved, perhaps we should just let any poster find any connection between characters. Seriously, there could be thousands of common bonds here, and weeding through all of them for a certain character may take forever, especially when it's been solved via another method. What does everyone think? It would keep the thread moving a lot more swiftly.

As I said, there can be more than one answer (but once clues are added, the combinations dwindle), but you guys have to make the same number of connections listing in the question (i.e, fill in all three blanks). But this question has gone on long enough...

    Answer:

    Solomon Grundy
    1. Star Sapphire (associate in the Injustice Gang)
    2. Ten (same VA as Star: Olivia D'Abo)
    3. Ace (Ten's associate in the RFG)
    4. Ace the Bathound (who fought Ace in "King's Ransom")

Next one's up for grabs, but remember to put in blanks so we know how many connections we need to look for (this game is called "N Degrees of Separation," after all).

OK, now I see what you're saying, DL. :) Thanks for clearing that up.

Since I'm here, I'll try this one:

    Germs (one of Dagget's chronies)
    1. _____
    2. _____
    3. _____
    4. _____
    5. Mary Kay Bergman (voice actor)

Whoah Tim, that's a hard one. On another note I finally realized that my second try didn't make any sense.

Are you including Batgirl in this mix (an exception to the rules above, which I'll overlook)? If so, I can see 3 degrees (Clayface, Batgirl, Bergman) or even 4 (Daggett, Clayface, Batgirl, Bergman), but not 5.

    Very challenging...

Man, I didn't even think of Germs encountering Clayface at some point...

And...what? *READS ABOVE* Awww dang, I thought only Batman and Superman were eliminated, not the sidekicks, too. OK, fine, well here's a hint - the "Mary Kay Bergman" hint is when she voiced Batgirl at some point.

    So...

    Germs
    1.
    2.
    3.
    4.
    5. Mary Kay Bergman (voice actor as Batgirl)

Hmm, some of that seems a little arbitrary. Superman and Batman would make things too easy, yes. But is Tim Drake really any more connected than say, Alfred or the Joker? And Supergirl?? She was only in 5 episodes.

How about we just leave it as the JL 7 and Beyond Batman/Terry as being out and anyone who feels like adding a restriction like "You can't use the Joker" or "Nobody who has operated from the Batcave" or "Nobody who works at the Daily Planet" or "No voice actor references" or whatever may do so at their own discresion whenever they ask a question?

    Re: Rules for this game.

I agree, the 7 JL members and Terry McGinnis should be eliminated, as they're in every episode of the series. Everyone else should count; sure, you could say that Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, Joker, Luthor, Lois, Alfred, etc, were in a number of different episodes, but to make that link, they must appear in the same SCENE in an episode. I thought that was the rule.

For example, Harvey Dent was in ON LEATHER WINGS, and so was Man-Bat. They were never in the same scene, however, so they can't be connected. Does that sound fair?

That said, back to my question:

    Germs
    1.
    2.
    3.
    4.
    5. Mary Kay Bergman (voice of Batgirl)

Don't think we need so many connection spots. I can do it in four.

    1. Germs
    2. Roland Dagget (his boss in Feat of Clay I & II)
    3. Batgirl (Dagget attempts to kill her in Batgirl Returns)
    4. Mary Kay Bergman (voices Batgirl in Subzero)

Orrrrrrr...if you insist I use five:

    1. Germs
    2. Roland Dagget (his boss in Feat of Clay I & II)
    3. Catwoman (Dagget attempts to kill her in Batgirl Returns)
    4. Batgirl (stars with her in same episode and You Scratch My Back)
    5. Mary Kay Bergman (voices Batgirl in Subzero)

I checked, and there is absolutely no way this can be done without Batgirl: that's the only character Bergman has voiced in the DCAU.

    Here's mine:

    1. Green Lantern (Kyle)
    2.
    3.
    4. Green Lantern (John)

You may not use the Lantern Corps Guardians! Because I said so. :)

Hey, good stuff there. That wasn't the specific connection I was going for, however. Here was mine:

    Germs
    1. Charlie Collins (both voiced by Ed Begley, Jr)
    2. The Joker (both in JOKER'S FAVOR)
    3. Ferris Boyle (both voiced by Mark Hamill)
    4. Mr. Freeze (both in HEART OF ICE)
    5. Mary Kay Bergman (she played Batgirl in SUB-ZERO)

As for yours, I don't know...I'm trying to wrack my brain for the Green Lantern STAS episode...nnnngh...
