My sentiments exactly.
I do have to say, the animation in those screenshots looks fairly high-quality.

I don't know, the case was the same for me when Curious George 1 came out. I've never seen it as a whole, but I did watch many clips for the animation. The drawings themselves are nice and crisp, but the coloring is too airbrushed and blurred for my liking. Or at least the shading.
As a cartoonist, the animation are pretty boring since they use little to no animation techniques (even stretch and squash is hardly used in the films), but as an animator, it's fluid enough to make you enjoy watching it.

Is this movie playing in theaters anywhere? I haven't seen any advertising for it.
Or maybe it's a Direct-to-video movie.
EDIT: OOPS! It is a Direct-to-video movie (shoulda read the review first). Breadsticks...

Maybe Curious George is a monkey, but had his tail cut off.
Maybe the Man in the Yellow Hat did it. Think about that.

I fully recommend it, Speedy. Compare to many animated films in theaters, Curious George is tame in comparison. No edgy jokes, no pop cultural references, no immature fart jokes, the entire film is like an alternate wholesome universe about a curious monkey and his owner. Not that those elements aren't always a bad thing, but It was a breath of fresh air for a cartoon to be so lighthearted. What it is instead is heartwarming, cute, and sedated. It's a bit sugary and cutesy, but I still gushed over it. Ya know, basically what Ed said about the second film (which I'm now curious - no pun intended - to watch).

Seconded.
I enjoyed the first film well enough so I'll be sure to at least rent this one. My little sister is a huge fan of the PBS series so she'll be delighted to see those new episodes in the bonus features.

I've checked out the series on PBS. The animation is nice and there is some decent writing (considering the audience). I consider this a successful revival of the character.

As I found out when I spoke with Norton Virgien, the TV show and the movies are two entirely different productions, although they do share some staff in common along with several voice actors. Anybody who didn't know any better could get mildly confused watching the TV show episodes on this DVD.
I do like the TV show quite a bit (probably more than either movie), but the movies are pretty good, too. Paramount did seem to do a pretty good job at keeping the release of this movie under wraps, though. I didn't even find out about it until the PR firm we talk with contacted me and said, "Hey do you want to review Curious George 2?"

I think I was only aware of a sequel to Curious George when I saw an in-store ad for it at Toys R Us. I loved the first CG movie, the TV show is pretty good watch as well, and I have a feeling that I might enjoy this as well, but then again I loved reading and renting these books from the library when I was a kid.
