Toon Zone Talkback - "Princess and the Frog" Coming to DVD/Blu-ray on March 16, 2010
This is the talkback thread for "Princess and the Frog" Coming to DVD/Blu-ray on March 16, 2010.
The market watchers will find it interesting that Disney is releasing a stand-alone Blu-ray disc for this movie in addition to the combo pack instead of just doing the combo pack.
Anyway, looking forward to it.

Single blu-ray... I assume Disney is using the blu-ray in place of the usual 2 disc dvd edition that so may other studios release. I sense the beginning of the end for special dvd releases.

Jeez, three months? That's an incredibly quick theater-to-DVD turnaround time for a Disney movie - used to be that it'd be somewhere around six to seven months. (Damn you, Avatar...)
But on the plus side, the sooner I can get it, the better. I didn't want to see this in theaters 'cause I hate watching movies with a bunch of hyperactive screaming children around me (there was a wailing baby in the front row when I went to see the 3-D Toy Story double-feature - nearly ruined the second movie for me). Studying the film on DVD in the comfort of my home will be nice.

Well, with the release of Heart Gold and Soul Silver, that week is starting to own my wallet. I'll be sure to pick it up since I did enjoy it in theaters.

I wished that we did receive a two-disc DVD of this film because not everyone has a Blu-Ray player. 'sigh' That's how business goes, I guess. I'll see if I have enough cash once this film hits. Unlike Daxdiv, March doesn't own me as I'm still unemployed and I would be blessed to even receive this or one of the two Pokemon Gold/Silver remakes for the Nintendo DS.

March, in general, is gonna be murder on my wallet when it comes to animation. Between PaTF, Ponyo, the Ghibli re-releases of films that I haven't bought yet, Fantasia Blu-ray, Toy Story 1 & 2 Blu-ray, good gawd. And when you add the latest MST3K release on top of that... wow.

You know what, after typing that, I just remember Ponyo, along with a bunch of other cool games coming out that month, like FFXIII, Mega Man 10, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and possibly some other games I'm forgetting right now. March, when did you decide to be cool again?

I think it happened last year when Warner Bros. released Watchmen on March 6.

Hm. I thought it would get a 2 disk BR release, like Snow White or Sleeping Beauty.

I thought Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 have been delayed from their original March 2010 date. They currently don't have a release date the last time I checked. Same goes for Blu-ray Dumbo too.

This'll be a first day purchase for me (most likely the Blu-Ray/DVD combo),since I loved the movie....March is a pretty busy month for me DVD/Blu-Ray-wise,there's also Ponyo, the two Toy Story movies, and the next season set of South Park (and probably some I'm forgetting )...and the new Pokemon games as well...

March 16? That's around the corner. I never got around to watching this in theaters so it's nice that the release date is nearby. I'll just order it from Pay-Per-View.

Well, that's a nice change. Usually I hear people didn't go see PandtF in theaters because they didn't want to be seen going to see a Disney princess movie.
But your decision is totally understandalbe, as that's one thing I HATE about seeing animated movies in theaters.

The article has been updated with box art for all 3 editions. I'm happy to see that they're making the 3-disc combo pack really stand out from the other 2 editions, vs. the horribly confusing packaging for the Snow White Diamond Edition.

The box art file names definitely confirm that the Blu-ray is only a 1-disc edition. There aren't a humongous number of extras on the disc, so I imagine it's not too hard to pack them all on 1 Blu-ray. I also think that's slightly indicative of how well Disney thinks the movie will do on home video; if it were a blockbuster, they'd probably splurge more on the extras and a second disc. Personally, I suspect that's a mistake -- all those little girls insisting on buying Tiana stuff (and pushing her past Ariel in her debut month) but don't seem to have gone to see the movie are going to push for the DVD instead. But I could be wrong and it ain't my money .

According to Blu-ray.com, Fantasia is slated for May 4th. So March just got a little lighter, at least...

I was really expecting PatF to come out on DVD more like May or June time. March is just way too soon.

Ugly box art. Is the 2.35 AR on the single-disc DVD a typo?

Well, personally I'm holding out for the inevitable Toy Story Trilogy boxed Blu-Ray set that'll probably be out before Christmas.

Why does it cost so much? $29.99 for the DVD and $39.99 for the Blu Ray. That's extremely expensive. Most DVDs are $19.99-$22.99 and Blu Ray's are finally around $22.99-$29.99.
