The Amazing World Of Gumball had a sneak peek at The Children's Media Conference in the UK and this was all that I managed to find written about it. It does a good job of saying absolutely nothing at all, but at least the series is continuing to generate positive buzz during these events.

Turner revealed a sneak preview of ‘The Amazing World of Gumball’, an ambitious in-house commission from Turner that combines live action with 3D and 2D animation. Without giving two much away ‘The World of Gumball’ is a fun and frenetic buddy comedy about Gumball an eleven year old blue cat and his best friend Darwin - a goldfish with legs. The show uses an exciting mix of illustration and animation styles in a highly original manner that is bound to be a smash hit when broadcast.

The preview was an indicator of the kind of comedy Cartoon Network is looking for: Interesting characters, engaging storylines, something fresh visually - they’re always open to new ideas.

Here is what one of the students had to say about what they saw.

I asked around and the series isn’t going to be ready to premiere until next year.
Sounds promising, but I'm sort of disappointed that it's premiere is being pushed ahead.

I e-mailed the Vice President of Original Series and Development at Cartoon Network Europe, and he promised to forward any information about the series to me as soon as he is able. I also asked Turner’s Senior Press Officer when information about the series would be able to be released and I was advised me to make another inquiry towards the end of the year. I later read that the series is tentatively scheduled to premiere next May.

Perhaps I’ll find something online before then, but I doubt that I’m going to find anything substantial in the next few months. I’m going to hope that this NDA is loosened by November.

I’ve been looking for information on the series since last year and have only managed to find bits and pieces, but I just found some stuff that was uploaded last year that I failed to notice somehow. I suppose I should be more thorough in the future. I put the image in spoiler tags due to its size. The image quality is a bit fuzzy, but at least it’s something new. I also bolded the new information in the first quote box.

A mix of animation styles with live-action backgrounds, the central character in The Amazing World Of Gumball is the eponymous blue cat of title. His best friend is Darwin the goldfish and other recurring characters include monkey school teacher Miss Simian and Gumball’s sister, a pink rabbit called Anais.

Daniel Lennard says the show is “the ordinary adventures of a cast of extraordinary characters”. Other family members also feature including Gumball’s stay-at-home dad and his mum, a cat-like character who sells rainbows for a living.

Based in Elmore, a US-style suburban town, the show follows Gumball and Darwin at school and home. Everything in Elmore has the potential to come alive, from the traffic lights to hillsides to the sun, creating a landscape full of characters animated in different styles with some live-action elements.

Turner will not disclose the budget for the series, but Lennard notes that storyboard-driven shows are more expensive to make than script driven projects and he says the budget is in line with a that of a comparable US-developed animated series.

    Spoiler:
I have believed in a lot of animated programs in the past and have gotten burned, but I sincerely believe that this one will turn out alright.

This might possibly be the weirdest-looking animated show I have ever seen. And I've seen my fair share of internet cartoons.

    My webcomic: Zack and Zeke

A heartwarming nonsensical tale comedy of friendship errors between a boy moron and his sarcastic alien
