Now, as I said before, can Ubisoft make up for some of the lackluster stuff this game have?

Call me when people are ready to stop crying about the roster. Seriously, I'm upset that Ubisoft lied to the fanbase and dropped the ball on the final line-up too but c'mon, can people be any more shallow?
BTW, IGN has a video review up and I can say that while 7.0 isn't as bad as I was expecting, I still find it unfair for them to compare it soley to Smash Bros. Brawl when this is the first installment in a new series.

Just watched the IGN video review, and it sounds like what they were most disappointed with was the lack of character selection. With the exception of Fugitoid I haven't really been impressed with the released roster - mainly consisting of all the obvious choices. I thought the game was made to capitalize on the TMNT 25th anniversary?
I do disagree with the "disappointing cutscenes" however - the limited animation comic panels look great and I think most Turtle fans will be excited to see new Peter Laird artwork.
Otherwise it doesn't sound like a bad game, I was just hoping for more incentive to pick it up at something other than bargain bin prices.

You posted I was writing mine. As to character roster I expect something more than just a cast ripped from the recent CGI movie - Mirage has shown willingness to obtain the rights and use the 80s toon designs, so why shouldn't characters from that era pop up? Or even characters that only appeared in the original black-and-white comics? Even the original mid-90s Tournament Fighters mixed cartoon characters with Archie creations and Laird/Eastman originals.
I find the smash bros. comparison quite fair when it's the same design team.

A good fighting engine, some really cool multi-tiered levels and good variety in the levels in general, every character plays uniquely and the online play puts Smash Bros. to shame simply for not having the lag issues but also because there's an online tournament feature which is something you have to do manually with Brawl like we did on TZ a few times. These are all really great features that add up to a great fighting game experience.
It's not the game people wanted that covers 25 years worth of TMNT lore BUT it's a good game. At least rent it before you decide that the lackluster roster makes this a bad game. It doesn't I assure you and I'm one of the biggest TMNT fanboys you'll probably ever meet.
Comparing it to Brawl is entirely fair, they're the same kind of game. However there are some things Brawl does better and some thing Smash Up does better IMO the things Smash Up does better count more towards the quality of the gaming experience.

I'm just surprised they didn't use the veteran characters like Leatherhead and Baxter (preferred cyborg version) in this game. You'd think Laird would use them.
I guess Usagi Minamoto can't be used since they probably never got the author's permission.

Considering Usagi was in the second TMNT 2003 based game for the previous generation of consoles I don't think obtaining the rights would be a problem but they probably never thought to do it.

I'm having fun with the game so far. I picked it up on Tuesday and have been going through it bit by bit. I've been doing the online matches more than anything else though I have started to get around to unlocking stuff. It's pretty fun so far and while I can't say yet that it was worth the full price tag I'm enjoying it. It looks good and plays fine and I'm not bored by it. I do wish the character roster was a bit bigger but maybe Ubisoft will look into that for an add-on or the next release.

Seems no one can unlock the alt costumes for the turtles but a good amount of the unlockable content has been achieved by some folks over at http://www.turtledojo.com
Now let me take a moment to say they REAAAALLLY screwed the pooch on the PS2 release. No online of course (meaning they cut out the best part of the game really) but also no Fugitoid (and Rabbids if you care) among other things. It's 20 bucks cheaper yes but that's no reason to leave out stuff that was in the Wii version that could have been in the PS2 one as well. Why even bother releasing such an incomplete game shortly after the Wii version hit shelves?
If the lack of stuff in the Wii version wasn't enough to say Ubisoft should have let this bun cook longer then the PS2 version makes it all too obvious. A PS2 fighting game with only 12 playable characters? What kind of joke is that? (just about as hillariously bad as a Wii fighting game with only 16 playable characters).
I still enjoy it thoroughly but I can't help but wonder what could have been if Ubisoft had put a bit more time into this one.
