"Tron Legacy" isn't the title, is it? I liked the original reveal: "TR2N."
At least they're keeping the same art style. I saw concept paintings for a Tron sequel considered around 2000; they looked completely different (the goal being, as in 1982, to show the latest CGI). Now that everything is CGI, the pressure is off and they can make a proper-looking sequel and call the minimalism "art."
Still looks too real, though. The thing about being in a computer is that it should look like you're in a computer. ReBoot had the right idea. You should go the opposite direction and pedal away from realism!

Tron: Legacy is the title now. It looks pretty cool. I have yet to see the original, though. I'll most likely try to watch both. I'm guessing the first one will be pretty cheap to buy around the time of the release of this one.

As someone who never cared for the original, even I got goosebumps watching the sequel teaser. If the rest of the movie is anything like that, this is something I'll be looking forward to in 2010.

The first movie is rather crappy. It's notable and survives in pop culture because it's use of computer animation was revolutionary for the time - but the story itself is AWFUL....which really is the only reason I'm excited about this movie. It's a got a great concept, and it's a wonderful excuse to play with a bunch of special effects.
It doesn't have anything to live up to...it's not like it could be WORSE than the original; so the worst it can be is a really fun SFX ride that's fun to look at. The trailer gets me amped. I'm pretty stoked for the film to come out...and knowing Daft Punk is doing the soundtrack only pumps that excitement up to a whole new level.

I think they changed it because TR2N would be hard to pronounce. Ter-toon? Huh? I personally think 2RON would've rolled off the tongue a lot easier.
However, I think Tron: Legacy is a rather bland title. What's with Hollywood's recent distaste in numbering sequels? Could they seriously pick any more generic words?

Title? Tron Legacy beats TR2N.
Music? Possibly Awesome. Just to post in case people forgot or are new, the soundtrack will be composed by Daft Punk. And, confirmed at the panel where the Tron Legacy footage debuted, they have created 24 songs so far.
Footage? Convinced me to follow this and maybe see Tron Legacy when it comes out.

This doesn't look good at all. The Tron-bike race was one of the few memorable things about the first movie, but the updated version was just dull. The benchmark was probably something like the Star Wars pod race, and even though that's 10 years old now, Tron 2 still fell way short of that standard. It looked more like something you'd expect to see on TV. It's not a good sign that they thought this was enough of a selling point to make it their first trailer.
Not impressed.

Mr. Happy doesn't like something? Shocking!
1) It's a teaser, not a first trailer. 2) It's all test footage they shot before the film was even officially in production to convince Disney brass it could be made. Hence a lower production value. It was just a proof of concept. 3) The film just finished shooting - they've got a little under a year of post-production until they've got a final print to present. We won't be seeing any notable footage from the actual film for about 6 months.

Teaser, trailer, same difference. It's something intended to hype the release of the movie.

They should have waited, then. But we've heard the "oh, but the final thing will look better" excuse a million times before, but it really never does.

Waited for...what? The Comic-Con in 6 months?
I'm not saying the final product will be better; I'm saying it's not entirely fair to write off the final film based on teaser made of test footage. It'd be like me saying the first Transformers film was crap because the Mars teaser was badly animated/poorly executed.
The whole point of a studio presence at Comic-Con is to hype their tentpole films that the con attendees are most likely to see. Tron is one of those films - waiting six months before the film opens to release any sort of media on it is a rather piss poor marketing move. Especially for something as ingrained in geek-dom as Tron.

Comic Con is hardly the only way to promote a movie. It's not even a particularly good one.

I didn't write anything off, I'm saying it was a poor decision to release this sort of mediocre footage, although it might be an indication that their final product isn't going to be significantly better.

Not at all. The Mars teaser was a very effective piece of marketing. Like I explained, The problem the Tron clip had was that it fell far below the standards set by decade old movies in the same genre.

Not if the only alternative is delivering something as mediocre as this.

Tron to me, was sort of like the early 1980s version of The Matrix sans the pseudo philosophical babble and heavy gun play.

It's definitely a teaser. That footage was shown last year, and actual filming didn't begin on until April this year.
And I don't know what TV show you're watching to compare this to, but please let me know.
Anyway, the first was always a favorite of mine as a kid. It's pretty dull in spots, but I'm of the opinion that yes, there are movies where the visuals make up for a lack of story, and the minimalist approach still looks pretty cool today.
As for this, the story and designs have me intrigued. I actually like how it completely ignores Tron 2.0, which I thought was a pretty cool game, but it felt far more like a side story than a sequel. The fact that it had the programs act like robots and the overdesigned new characters kinda killed the charm, and there was a severe lack of "epic moments".
They also didn't really give a good reason for the security programs to still be evil like the first movie, so instead of fighting Stormtroopers, it gave off the impression that I was shooting cops because they thought I was a criminal. Really didn't think that one all the way through.

I've heard that it's a redone version of last year's teaser. Being that it was basically a proof of concept (as Discloner pointed out), they probably have a better idea of exactly what the effects will look like now that shooting has officially started and decided to redo it in order to better reflect the final product.

Not a big fan of the first one, then again I saw it when I was 15 around 2002.
So maybe thats why, however I do love the way the computer world looked like. So yeah not terribly hyped about this but will definitely check it out. The teaser is alright not bad but not great, I can see why people are loving it though.

The only difference between the 2008 footage and this teaser is the title, music, and the fact that it can be shown in 3D. Other than that it's the same basic content.
