Changes for the Spider-Man newspaper strip (5/25/09 Update)

Today's comic strip:

Over the last few months Marvel has been sweeping up the remaining traces of bliss and systematically snuffing them out one by one. I at least figured the strip was safe since no one cares about it.

Nah, they found it.

Happy new year to you too, ya %#$$%.

changes to come for the Spider-man newspaper strip

I spotted this info today on the Spider-man newspaper strip (still available at some newspapers like the Houston Chronicle)
http://www.chron.com/apps/comics/sho...name=Spiderman
http://meekrat.net/2008/12/31/the-ra...fused-blogger/

We have to wonder if they'll "un-marry" Peter and MJ in the newspaper strip as well? And perhaps a new artist might pen the newspaper strip as well.

I hope Marvel is not going to change the Spider-Man comic strip. It's the only Spider-Man comic that I can enjoy without the whole "OMD/BND" screwing it up.

I wish that Marvel makes a printed collection of the strip so I can enjoy it whenever I want.

Wait, Stan Lee still works on the strip? You'd think he'd veto this decision. Then again, maybe its not what we think, maybe we'll see the strip debut of the black costume, or maybe the strip will have spidey join the new avengers and they'll simply retitle the strip.

I do watch the daily strip regulary but not caring for it
It's too far fetched to see B.N.D in the strips anyway

Going by the TPBs, Stan's praised the change. I could care less now anyways...somehow the writers feel like they're having fun writing for him again, and that works for me.

In actuality, it feels like I'm reading Spidey circa 1993 before all the 'I am the Spider' nonsense, and without Mary Jane's angsting about his curfew.

And now I'm seeing their motive.

Sad to say, the dreaded "Brand New Day" has come to the Spidey newspaper strip. Quesadilla has poisoned the last safe bastion of Spider-adventure!!!!!

There are reasons why I don't buy comics anymore, nor have had reason to. Quesadilla messing with Spider-Man is one of them.

At least no one will stare at me angrily for saying it's too far fetched

Is it just me, or do the editors at both DC and Marvel seem to enjoy making the readers angry or tired? Final Crisis, Civil War, Secret Invasion, Infinite Crisis, Dark Reign, BND/OMD...

Don't get me wrong; there are a few gems in both Marvel and DC, but yeesh, this is why I'm starting to support more and more third-party companies and writers (see Alan Moore, Dark Horse, any good comic not associated with Marvel or DC...)

However, even though I don't read the newspaper strip of Spider-Man, someone needs to tell the editors that just because they think BND is a good idea doesn't mean everyone else does, and to continually force it on every single aspect that is Spider-Man just makes it more and more evident that they're being incredibly foolish and narrow-minded.

Couldn't have said it better myself. They seem to be deluded into thinking that this is what the mass market wants to see.

Could someone describe what exactly has happened in the newest strip [after the one in the opening post]? Unfortunately, they don't run the Amazing Spider-Man strip in any Dutch newspapers and I can't seem to find a daily updated version online [like Garfield has, for example].

Just wondering, has it actually been stated anywhere that BND has affected the strips. This could actually be a prank and have MJ just show up in the next one. Though I highly doubt that Marvel would actually be that smart and are seriously putting in BND. But hey, maybe some soccor mom will complain that this is suggesting to their children that marriage is bad. Though I highly doubt that too.

This is my guess, the way this strip is set up seems to be just Stan trying to psyche out the readers. Plus keep in mind that Quesada isn't the absolute master of all things Marvel, he just runs the comic publishing side of it. Does anybody here know for sure whether the newspaper strip falls under his jurisdiction or not?
