American Dragon: Jake Long (Original Disney Channel Show)
So, what do you think of one of the best Disney channel shows out there, American dragon Jake Long? Cancelled over a year, but still great.
What do you think of the main character, the Huntsman? Evil, diobolical, HAWT? Tell us what you think! |

I like the show. It is good.
... When it is not covered in annoying slang.

Slang was annoying in the first season, I was so happy in the second season that I finally understood what Jake was saying without having to decrypt it.

It was an excellent show, wish it lasted longer. I thought the whole Huntsclan storyline was brillant.
I wondered what if this was written by Japanese writers, maybe they would have gone deeper with some of these storylines. The whole first season of Jake and Rose finding out each other secret identity and way it was done, is similar to how Leloush and Suzaku found out each other was the enemy in season 1 of Code Geass. What I would have done, is in season 1, have the American Dragon and Huntsgirl forced to work together in one occasion, as well as show Rose / Huntsgirl in conflicts playing the heroine that doesn't involve Jake / American Dragon, for example a B story of Huntsgirl saving someone from a mugger. And showing how the Huntsman punishes Huntsgirl after a defeat. In season 2, after Rose lost her memories, she should have stayed in town and still gone to school with Jake (which what the writers wanted to do actully but Dinsey wouldn't let them). In another sub plot, the Huntsclan traines are found babbling about magial creatures and are put in a juvinal asslaim, Rose watching this on the news for some reason that she contiously doesn't know, takes empathy with them and wants to help them get sane and find their familes. Later Jake and his allies fight the Dark Dragon and his army of evil magical creatues which would include every magical villain Jake has fought. The final battle is Jake, the other dragons, his friends, family, other allies both human and magical, memory restored Rose and the reformed ex Huntsclan trainees vs the Dark Dragon and his magical army. Jake and friends beat the Dark Dragon, and the world finds out about the excistence of magical creatures. |

I could never get into this series. I respected it, as it did things that many other shows of its kind are reluctant to do, but I didn’t find it to be as great as people had claimed that it was. I enjoyed several episodes, in both the first and second season, but I wouldn’t call myself a fan.

Wait, people claimed that the show was great? I've always found it to be a severely underrated series in terms of an internet-based fanbase. After the show ended, I felt like I was basically the only fan of it left on this site.

Anyway, I enjoyed it for the most part, but a lot of the episodes were kind of pointless. I really only cared for the Jake/Rose/Huntsclan episodes, but they were still nice; and Jake/Rosa is one of the best examples of developing romance in a cartoon I can think of. |

I really enjoyed this series too. The first season only had a handful of good episodes, but season two improved on everything from the character designs to the writing ten times. It did take me awhile to get used to the new designs, but once they did I saw how they were better than in season one. Or at least not a step backwards. My favorite one being Jake's dragon form since now he actually looked like a dragon. The Huntsman storyline was awesome and intense. Homecoming was one of my favorite episodes in the series and to this day, it is the only episode of a Disney Channel Original Series that has made me cry. I also really liked the development of the relationship between Jake and Rose, which got so much better in season two.
I do wish that the series got a third season, especially since the finale was much too open ended for my tastes and there were a lot of different storylines that they could have tapped in for another season. Still, it was a great show and I did like its unique twists on dragons and other mystical creatures. |
