Out of Jimmy's Head - "Sleepover" -Talkback(Spoilers)

Well, it's that time again. Time to see what this show rips off next. Feel free to discuss your feelings on this episode or prepare yourselves to watch the new episode of Avatar if you haven't seen it on Turbonick already.

First complaint: Craig wanting a squirting city and tree. What else does he want to squirt next. And no adult-rated jokes please.

Well, the show is as cheesy, badly acted and written as I thought, but after actually sitting through a whole episode, I did notice one thing: the cartoons were great. The voice acting, animation and gags were actually really good. Their new designs have them making some well drawn Spumco-esque expressions. They should've gave the Golly Gopher characters their own show; I'd actually watch it.

Well the live-action part is poorly done, writing, acting, all generic.

But the cartoons may deserve a part of their own.

What I don't get was that the alien sister fell in love with a werewolf. Clearly, this episode is weirder than last week's with the kid with random elephant in school locker. Was I the only one whought that in the "Smashing Boyfriend Pinata" scene, the pinata that's supposed to look like Yancy's ex reminded me of Crash Bandicoot?

Ok, I remember asking this in this thread before but I'll do it again: What new designs?

Yes, that was weird. Yancy is green skinned alien and her boyfriend is a werewolf? Where do they go to school? Gravedale High? (the members who watched NBC on Saturday mornings in the late 80s will get that reference). It's enough that you've got a live-in space alien in the house. The shows' writers are really pushing the envelope here.

The toons have their moments, especially Golly & Molly, but the fact that only Jimmy can see them is a weakness, IMHO. It would be better if the show were like Bonkers and the toons could interact openly with the humans.

Jimmy's mom and Robin are both too perfect. In the case of the mom, I could see how the writers could turn her being perfect into a running gag, say, she excels at everything that she does. As for Jimmy's dad, he's too dumb to be real, let alone support a family.

I think OOJH's writers are trying too hard to make this show seem like a live action cartoon.

I think they're deliberately trying to make OOJH as 'cartoony' as possible so as to justify its' presence on Cartoon Network. (Though this hasn't stopped people from complaining about it.)

Even though I can't give ratings to the show, I still don't watch it.

They still look similar, but they HAVE changed. Crocco has "wackier" close together eyes with red pupils now; Tux has different eyes, is fatter and has an underbite when he talks; Pickles and Prickles look cartoonier; Golly and Dolly have much skinnier, rubbery limbs now instead of their at Hanna-Barberra-y legs; ad they all have a looser, smoother animation style where they rarely stay on model.

New designs:

Old designs:

...Now I feel weird for knowing all the cartoon's names...

I didn't really like this one....mostly because Tux wasn't in it (at least not the half of the episode I saw)

I didn't want to be in this thread, but here goes:

Well, I didn't watch it. I thankfully missed it. I was watching Scrubs on Comedy Central. Like I said, I watch cartoons on Cartoon Network, not Live Action on Cartoon Network. The cartoons are so much better than those loser characters.

And....

Since when Network has ever promoted any kind of new show this much? All the time, its: watch Out Of Jimmy's Head, watch Out Of Jimmy's Head, watch Out Of Jimmy's Head: Oh, for goodness sakes, Billy & Mandy's new episodes wasn't even promoted a lot, just that damn Jimmy. The Network is in TV Hell, with the New Nickelodeon and The new Disney Channel, and Nicktoons Network, Toon Disney, MTV and such. I sometimes ask myself why is people saying that CN is closing down.

I hope their ratings plummet to the ground.

Oh god the generic "teen sitcom" theme song...

Thanks for clarifying.

That's not very nice.

I've seen this show and it's not that bad.At least the mother isn't as weird as she was in the movie.

Right, I thought she was responsable and was never mostly seen throughout the movie and tv series.

Actually, I kind of like Jimmy's mom. She serves as the perfect counterbalance to the dad's stupidity and silliness. The writers could have given mom a wacky personality like the others (for example, she could have been a super heroine instead of an astronaut), but this kind of works also. The only problem with that is that "perfect" characters who never mess up usually don't get the laughs, because vice is funnier than virtue. Still, I think the mom should be around all the time like the rest of Jimmy's family. The OOJH writers just aren't very good at writing for female characters, as seems evident by the boringly sensible Robin.

But then, Jimmy's a pretty boring character also. Things happen to him, rather than his making things happen. It's not so great when your main character is among the least interesting on the show. It was the same deal with the Disney shows Lloyd in Space and Phil of the Future. Come to think of it, I don't really like any of the main kids on the show. The cartoon characters are OK, and Yancy is an interesting idea, but Jimmy and his human pals do nothing for me.

Call me dense but I think I missed something.

I haven't seen Re-animated so maybe that's why I'm confused. Does Sonny Appleday (I think that's his name) live in Jimmy's house? He keeps popping up in the house, I don't get it.

The thing I'm having a hard time with is how over-the-top the human characters are- it makes the show seem cheesy and even uncomfortably stupid at times.*** I think this show would be more enjoyable if all the people were cartoons and Jimmy was the only one who can see humans!!*** Now THAT would be interesting!

Yes, Sonny lives in the Roberts' house as a border. Apparently, Mr. and Mrs. Roberts are oblivious to the fact that Sonny is trying to lobotomize their son.

And just FTR, I think having him live with the family is too over-the-top as well. At the most, Sonny should just be a recurring character who turns up from time to time, IMO.
