Disney Adventures getting the axe!

From Mediaweek:

Quote:
Disney Publishing Worldwide will fold its Disney Adventures with the November issue to focus on new magazine and book efforts, a company spokesperson said.

Publisher Mary Beth Wright will stay at Disney Publishing as the publisher of parenting title FamilyFun, which Disney continues to publish, along with Wondertime (where Dave Mevorah is publisher). She became the publisher of both titles last year. The fate of the editor and other staffers has not been determined.

Subscribers will be offered a refund or a subscription to one of the other Disney Publishing titles.

The Disney magazine launched in 1990 for kids ages 6-14. Disney Adventures reported 97.9 ad pages in the first half of this year, an increase of 4.5 percent vs. the year-ago period, according to Publishers Information Bureau. The title had a mostly subscriber-based circ of 1.2 million, per its most recent BPA audit of December 2006

Well, there goes yet another nostalgic piece of entertainment from childhood. *sigh* Here's another piece of entertainment that every time I hear of it I hear the "All Of The Family" theme. *singing* Those were the days.....

Hope it dosen't go through the Nickelodeon Magazine chute.

EDIT: And by that I mean...

"Disney Publishing Worldwide will fold its Disney Adventures with the November issue to focus on new magazine and book efforts, a company spokesperson said."

Rest In Peace for the original magazine.

Wow, what brought that on? I thought it was doing fine.

Let's hope it gets a proper sendoff similar to their Tenth Anniversary Issue. I can't believe there won't be a Twentieth.

Of course. Just as they were getting some decent comics back.

I'm hoping that they'll continue Comics Zone, the spin-off, but I highly doubt that'll be the case.

I remember the heyday of Disney Adventures, and I think it was the first magazine I ever subscribed to as well. I've still got about the first twenty issues or so in a box somewhere. A few years ago I spotted a current issue in a store somewhere and was like, "This is still around?" I picked it up from the rack and had to laugh at how light, thin, and cheap it felt compared to the old thick, heavier ones that I used to get.

Oh man, this is REALLY depressing for me, since I have nearly every issue from 1993 to 2006 scattered around the house...

RIP old friend.... RIP.....

Haha, I still have the 1992 October book, with the Darkwing Duck comic, "The Revenge of 3-D Man" with Will Smith on the cover with Magica De Spell.

Yeah, I remember when the magazine was first released and was much bulkier and resembled a soft cover book. We'd get Ducktales, Rescue Rangers, Talespin, and other DA comics every month, and the celebrity interviews were much more fun. I still have the ones with Weird Al, Macauly Culkin, John Candy, and others.

The first one I got was a special newsstands-only issue from 1992 or 1993 to commemorate the premiere of "Goof Troop". If I recall correctly, the cover celebrity was Macaulay Culkin (they interviewed him, as I think this was around the time Home Alone 2 came out). I held on to it for a while before subscribing, but I remember that the first issue I got delivered to my mailbox was the September 1993 issue. I didn't stop my subscription until sometime in 2002, so I got to witness the entire decline and fall of the magazine as a whole.

And I just was going to talk about Disney in a good way! But now, I changed my mnd. Here we go again. I'm 41 years old, and I still loved the magazines! Better than Nick's current crummy magazine, it seems like every other month they have Spongebob gracing the covers, lame and bothering.

And I thought it was doing good. I have a 2 1997 magazines from September to October, it was great, and now that Disney is once again is ruining another memory, I guess I'll have to look at the old magazines now. The "Rat Poison" Company trashed most of the Fox Kids library, they trashed Toon Disney and Jetix, many other things, and now this......

Off topic: The first magazine came on my neice's birth into the world (Nov 12, 1990).

So long Disney Adventures, you took me and many other subscribers and non-subscibers on a heck of a journey.

Nov 12, 1990 - November 2007.

Barley 17 years.

And, before anybody wonders if this is a RELIABLE source, Mediaweek is a VERY reliable website related to news about the media industry. So, in case people were wondering that, I just wanted to put that out. However, I first discovered it here (including a pic of the first cover for all ya nostalgia peoples) before going to the article. But, I figured that the article would be more reliable.

I remember when I used to beg for an issue everytime me and my mom would go to the supermarket on Saturdays. The magazine was pretty innovative for its time with its blend of news, comics, puzzles, movie reviews and other stuff. I stopped collecting around 1993 though but I always enjoyed reading the magazine.

Looks like its over for our little mag:

from its start as "The Bible for Disney-related news", all the way to "HSM and HM Action Central", its been a good read, from Dizzy Adventures to The Last Laugh, this mag was teh pwn for Disney-related stuff...

You will be missed...
