The Official Comic Book Talkback Thread Collection & Talkback Creation Instructions

In an effort to make it easier for Toon Zone comic book fans to find and contribute to comic book talkbacks, we have created this thread which features a compilation of all current comic book talkbacks.

Please note the following changes to talkback threads: Since most comic book issues are now structured for TPB format, our talkback threads are now structured according to story arc length, (for example, a talkback will be for "Batman: Hush Pts. 1-12", and not Batman #608, Batman #609, etc.). Stand alone, (i.e. self contained) issues would get their own talkback threads, unless all issues of a series are usually "stand alone", in which case, a talkback thread for the entire series is just fine. Mini-series and Crossover events, (stories that spread themselves over more than one comic book) will have their own talkback threads.

The moderators are not responsible for the creation of new comic talkbacks. You may create your own talkbacks for the latest comic book story arcs, (as long as you actually contribute to the talkback thread of your own creation)! Also, please keep in mind that new talkbacks should only be started on official release dates for the new comics.

You may be thinking: "So how do I create a talkback thread?!?" Well here's a simple little guide to help you out:

An "official" talkback thread should look nice and organized, so let's break this down step by step.

First, the thread title: The thread title should generally include the following:

1. The title of the comic book.
2. The issue numbers for the storyline.
3. The name of the storyline for these issues, (or 'issue', if it's a stand alone story).
4. The word "Spoilers" should be in your title line, to let people know there will be plot reveals in the thread.

Example: "Batman #608-619 "Hush" Talkback (Spoilers)"

Next: In the body of the initial post itself, you should include the following:

1. A Cover Image
2. A Creator List, (writer and artist)
3. Solicit Info, (a brief synopsis, usually provided by the publishing company).

Example:

Written by: Jeph Loeb
Art by: Jim Lee and Scott Williams

"In this story of murder, mystery and romance, Batman sets out on a simple mission to discover the identity of the mysterious character wreaking havoc in his life and ultimately finds himself in battle against his greatest ally. Working with Catwoman, the Dark Knight Detective goes in search of the deadly Poison Ivy to learn of her role in this latest plot against him. But when her trail leads to Metropolis, a war of epic proportions breaks out as the Man of Steel stands in the Dark Knight's path. Featuring a monumental battle between Batman and Superman. this book also includes appearances by the ravenous Killer Croc and the female vigilante Huntress."

Note, in this case, that the solicit info appears to have been for the 1st TPB of the "Hush" arc, and not for individual issues, but you get the general idea.

Now you may be wondering, "where can I get all that info?!?"

Well, the name of the storyline, (or the name for the individual issue), as well as info on the writer and artists for the issue can usually be found in the comic book itself. Try and consult the actual issue if you have already own it when creating a talkback thread. If you want to create a talkback thread going off of just the solicitation info, such info can be found at various places online.

It's usually best to try the publisher's websites, such as:

4. http://www.imagecomics.com/

It also might be good to try online comic stores, such as:

1. http://www.mycomicshop.com/
2. http://www.milehighcomics.com/

And finally, it also might be worthy trying online comic book news sites, such as:

After having posted all that info, it might be good to end your post with a line requesting everyone share their opinions, such as:

Example: Comments? What are your thoughts?

There is one other final thing you should do: Before clicking "Submit New Thread" you should post a poll! Find the section titled Post a poll: and check the box next to Yes! post a poll. Change the Number of options initally: from '4' to '10' (which is the maximum). You can use the 5-star system shown below...

Some people put fun little variations on the above poll choices, (such as "5 Batarangs" or "1/2 Batarang", or something like that). This is perfectly fine. That gives you your poll. Make a title like "Rate This Comic Book and Post Your Comments" click Submit New Poll and you're all set!

Now these talkbacks are usually started when the first issue of the storyline comes out. When the subsequent issues come out, you'll need to add the cover image and solicit info to the talkback thread, either by editing that information into your initial post for the thread, or by simply adding a new post in the discussion. This should keep the talkback thread up to date, and ready for comments from people as each new issue comes out.

So there you have it!!! Now you know how to create a comic book talkback thread!
