You may now ETERNALLY SHAME YOUR FAMILY'S HONOR at Suncoast

Oh the strange and horrifying sights I saw today...

Suncoast has it's stores decorated with signs with the phrase "we now have HENTAI!" or "ask about HENTAI!"(they were also at the counter) either or but it's in big bold letters and a toonami-esque font style...anyways they have these signs mostly concentraited around the anime section(well duh). Honestly I've never ever seen a hentai movie, i've only seen DVD covers in passing and heard about certain movies on the internet box. But really I can imagine people ignorant to the existance of it and asking the staff about it...and to tell ya the truth I almost contemplated looking to see what strange titles they were stocking out of curiosity...but then I decided against it...because really...it's just pretty much all in poor taste.

I mean I really have no qualms with people buying this type of stuff over the internet, it's just that SC is a chain store and chainstores are more open to the public. It's usualy my last stop if I couldn't get anything at BB and they sometimes stock more limited editions than BB or rarer titles or series(Gad Guard, Otogi Zoshi, Dokkoida?!, Weathering Continent).

This eiter means that

A) paying customers have requested/written/emailed Suncoast about aquring hentai

B) The higer ups heard about this in passing and thought it was the same as regular anime...or are like Al Kahn.

Also considering they have these signs on the anime DVD racks, I think people will confuse regular anime for Hentai or think people who are going to buy anime are buying hentai...

I saw that yesterday at the mall. I literally did a double take. I'd love to see a nice big "ASK ABOUT HARDCORE PORN!" sign in the Disney section. Who okays these things? Honestly.

I'd rather buy a "ask about HENTAI!" sign then the movie itself, good game suncoast.

What's next? "WE HAVE FURRY PORN!"

Scary, but still not as bad as japan!

I agree a sign that say's "ask about HENTAI" is much more worth my money than actual hentai. That's good signature material I say.

Probably more like "We have Hentai! Every Friday is Furry Friday! All New Furry Hentai 50% off!" And then they'll have some tentacle man or cowlady next to it.

But seriously, Suncoast has found a new low. The last thing a store should be doing it bragging about it is porn, unless of course it's a porn-only store. Granted, I suppose it's not as bad as "Ask us about lolicon!" or "Who love tentacles?" or "Get your red hot yaoi!" but I suppose it's only a matter of time before Suncoast divide their DVDs up like 4chan.

However, the signs are instant collectors items.

I'm tempted to go to Suncoast just to see what titles they have.

...

Ya know, I'm so incredibly incensed that the Suncoast at my local mall closed a while back.

That's pretty funny for a store in a mall to be blatantly advertising porn. Must not be in the Bible belt.

Does anyone actually shop at Suncoast?? Surely it's cheaper to shop elsewhere.

I've heard from folks who work(ed) at Suncoast that anime has been what is keeping the chain afloat. For a lot of fans, it's only means of getting anime cause they don't have a Best Buy or Circut City nearby and they are too young to do the e-commerce thing or their parents won't let them do the e-commerce thing. So in that sense, it only make sense for them to capitalize on hentai as they are probably the only source in town in some places, but they should be a lot quieter about the roll out.

A *lot* of anime fans just don't parse the hentai stuff at all, and would be apt to stop shopping at Suncoast if possible if they keep bragging about it. I know I'd be looking for other options if the local anime store started selling hentai. I'd probably go back to online shopping (which I only went to because I was sick of the Wherehouse's policy of mixing the hentai and normal together - I hated looking for Blue Submarine DVDs and finding Bondage Queen DVDs instead,) like I did in 2001/2002 before I discovered a local anime store that broke street date often and had cool people hanging out there (namely Kyle Pope.) I'd leave in a heart beat though if it had "WE HAVE HENTAI!" signs all over it though. I'd be back to amazon.com - they recommend stuff I might actually enjoy.

I shop at Suncoast all the time. If I can't find something at Best Buy, I can likely get it at Suncoast. I was just there a few days ago and didn't see these new offerings. I'll have to check next time I go back. Seriously, I've got no problem with them selling it, but I do think they should be clearly marked as not being regular anime for the benefit of kids.

Real classy there, Suncoast.

But, yes, photographic evidence is needed. Heck, I won't have much to do between my last exam and when I'll have my folks come help me move back home for the summer... I might just catch a bus to the Northgate mall and put my cameraphone to work.

I used to work at a Suncoast, years ago, and I remember them carrying some of the early SoftCel stuff on VHS.

Which is, y'know, nothing compared to whatever Nutech horror they're likely getting now.

The fact that they'd go out of their way to advertise this presuming that an anime viewer like myself would automatically be interested in it is something I find rather distasteful. Good way to drive me away from the store, rather than draw me in. But I'm going to confirm this for myself by paying my local one a visit. If its true...they can forget about seeing me for awhile.
