Acclaimed action director John Woo, who previously set out with plans to produce and possibly direct a newly envisioned Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, spoke to SciFi.com earlier today about his further involvement in the upcoming project.
"I [will] work on this project as a producer with my partner, Terence Chang, as co-producer. The other companies [Digital Rim Entertainment and Mirage Studios] wanted to start with television first and then make a movie. Now we're starting with a story." The new movie, which would use CGI animation in place of the live action and animatronics of the first 3 live-action films, would have a different feel and hopefully remain closer to moody and dark aspects of the original source material. Woo also has plans to produce a new television series based around it. There are no indications that New Line Cinema, producers of the live-action TMNT films, are involved with the proposed CGI project. Perhaps, Mirage's recent revival of TMNT and the upcoming FOX BOX animated series will spark new interest for the Ninja Turtles in Hollywood.
