Talking

Can you ask him if there's any role other than The Joker that he would have liked to play in any DC Comics animated production. If you could share his response if you do ask this later I'd be really thrilled!

I'd like to know about the rumored sequel to Comic Book: The Movie. As much as I enjoyed it, I can't really see where they would go with a second one, but I'm curious to know what he might be working on for one, if a sequel is still a possibility.

Question One

One aspect of Mark's consistently brilliant interpretation of the Joker that occassional rubs me the wrong way is how he rolls some of the ''r''s in the dialogue. I was wondering why Mark chooses to do so. Does he feel like Joker has a certain amount of Russian in his background...? Or is it just part of the Joker's flamboyancy? Did it just happen to feel right in the recording booth?

Examples (off the top of my head)

MAD LOVE
''...tore the crrrrrotch clean out of his pants!'' and ''...over his rrrrrediculous mask and gadgets!''

Question Two

I'd also like to know what it was like for Mark coming in to play Joker after Tim Curry had already been cast in the role. Had they both auditioned at the same time, and Hamill simply ended up coming in after Curry had left? Did he ever hear Curry's take on the character?

Question Three

Of all the Joker stunts and schemes he pulled over the course of the various shows, does Mark have a favorite?

Question Four

Was Mark hoping to reprise the Joker character on Justice League Unlimited, before the ''Batman Ban'' came into effect, making it impossible for key Batman supporting cast members to appear on any series other than The Batman? Or did he know at the time that ''Wild Cards'' would be his last performance in the DCAU as Joker?

Interesting you should bring that up. When we had Jennifer Hale on, we asked her to cut a bumper for our show as Bastilla from Knights of the Old Republic. She kindly reminded us that she couldn't because of copyright infringement laws, and since then, we've never asked a guest to do anything in character.

When Mark came on the first time, we asked him to cut a general bumper. Mark showed us that he has some serious balls and cut a promo as The Joker, without any hesitation and out of nowhere. So while I'm not sure it's legal that Mark can do it, he has obviously has no fear at all of doing it.

This reminds me of something Kevin Conroy once said in an interview. A lady who worked at Warner Bros. had asked him to record the outgoing message on her office answering machine as Batman, and he happily obliged. Shortly after, somebody (I guess from the executive offices) called down and heard the message, and word came that some higher-ups were upset with him for doing it because, even though it was his voice, he was "playing" Batman, and they didn't like him being used for something they saw as flippant, I guess.

I also recall seeing Nancy Cartwright on Entertainment Tonight many years ago talking about how Fox wouldn't let her do anything in Bart's voice outside of the show, despite the fact it was a voice she had created on her own for the character.

I remember that. Didn't they say something like, "You own your voice, but we own Batman"?

Please ask him about his experience voicing Joker in the Arkham Asylum video game. How is voicing a video game character different than voicing an animated one? Was he nervous? What was it like working with Kevin again?

Also ask him what it was like picking his Joker voice back up after not doing it for a while. Was he rusty? Did he feel nostalgic?

Yeah, that was it! I couldn't remember all the details. I think that particular interview is actually on my Kevin Conroy site (link in my signature; shameless plug ), but hadn't read it in awhile.
