After they let disney get it's hands on Naruto
I just gave up on CN
Does any one think it can rise to its former glory as the king of action cartoons

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this must be thread #1,000,000,000,000 about whether or not CN is ever going to go back to the past.

The answer is no, because it isn't profitable.

Sorry if I come across as rude, but it's extremely frustrating that every other thread in this forum is "I want the old CN back."

Cartoon Network can return to its former glory, and recent schedule changes suggest a trend back in that direction. But do not be misled! They still need better programs overall, and if the current executives in charge have their way, that is NOT what is in store for the future.

First, Cartoon Network has to go back to wanting to be a cartoon network again. As soon as they finally come to accept that they'll never be able to compete with Nick and Disney Channel, and learn to once again promote themselves as the alternative to those other stations instead of trying to mimic them, and come to embrace animation with open arms instead of viewing it as something they just have to do, then CN will again become a decent place for cartoons, both action and comedy. (Though truth be told, it's not all that bad a place for action right now: Clone Wars is doing well from what I hear, The Secret Saturdays is back and I'm personally really digging The Super Hero Squad Show--I like it more than Batman: The Brave and the Bold, honestly, probably because SHS offers more of a mix and it's not centric to just one hero who I only have mixed feelings about.)

But no, it's never going to go back to the way it was, because it's not the 90's anymore, and it shouldn't try to go back to the way it was 10-15 years ago. Cartoon Network needs to innovate and move forward, not step into the WABAC machine and return to the past.

There's always hope. Cartoon Network is just screwed up in the head right now stil trying to find out what it is. Cartoon Network needs to forget about live action and just focus on being an animation channel again.

Incidentally, I know that some fans dislike referring to Cartoon Network as CN for short because of the negative connotations that have become associated with it. So, for a new nickname for Cartoon Network, might I suggest..."Toon"?

I like that. I'm going to start abbreviating Cartoon Network as 'Toon' from now on, since 'CN' has practically become a dirty word.

It seems a while ago I have read that CN's main target is the male demographic and they have some good action cartoons in the works, and some currently on the air.

And I agree with other posters that I'm getting tired of all these threads pleading for hope for Cartoon Network. If you want to watch Naruto, just get the DVDs, Disney XD, or watch it online for free. You have numerous venues, use it!

You know, Naruto isn't all that good. It has its moments, but it's not really good. Many people want it to be the next Dragon Ball Z, but it won't be. It had a chance, but I don't see it coming.

As to "former glory," I think a lot of shows on the lineup help them keep their throne. Ben 10: Alien Force is pretty good as is The Secret Saturdays (last night's season premiere was phenomenal). Plus, Batman: The Brave and the Bold perfectly blends the familiar DC Comics mythos with slight comedic overtones and it works well together (it's actually a bit better than The Batman) and Star Wars: The Clone Wars is finding its groove after an uneven first season. Younger audiences have shows like Bakugan, Yu-Gi-Oh 5ds, Chaotic, Hot Wheels: Battle Force Five, Pokemon, and the strangely appealing Super Hero Squad Show which blends familiar Marvel Comics mythos with heavy comedic overtones (doesn't work quite as well as Brave and the Bold, but the voice artists on this series are the best ever assembled, I kid you not). Plus, two new shows, Generator Rex (from Man of Action, the creators of Ben 10) and Sym-Bionic Titan (from Genndy Tartakovsky, creator of Dexter's Laboratory and Samurai Jack and the director of the original Clone Wars shorts) are coming this winter and will more than fill the action quota for Cartoon Network.

They're still the king of action cartoons. Their crown just isn't made in Japan any more.

The thing is: people overreact too much.
"OMG, CN is showing 2 live-action shows! They should call it the Live-action Network!"

This pretty much gets on my nerves. To me, 2009 for 'Toon is the year of experiments. They messed around with live-action shows and it didn't work. So because of that, they're bringing Looney Tunes and Johnny Bravo back. Just because they didn't acquire Naruto Shippuden, it doesn't mean the end of Cartoon Network.

And on the king of action cartoons thing: they are the king of action cartoons. Nick and Disney are more interested in comedy and musicals.

I am in total agreement. They're not going back to old bumpers and using the former logo.

If you don't like it, move your darn finger!

Just because CN isn't the exact same network it was 6 or 7 years ago does not mean that it can't be great or isn't great now, it's all in the eyes of the viewer and everyone has a right to their opinion. I think the network has gotten better since the summer personally, but do I think it's 100% perfect? No.

Give CN some time to recover from the crappy decisions they have made in the past and let's see what they come up with in the future.

Considering that CN is bringing back Looney Tunes and Johnny Bravo, as well as The Secret of NIMH on the Flicks, I'd say the network is well on its way if it keeps this up.

Didn't you watch CN/Toon last night? Ya know, that nameless, unbranded action block featuring the one-two punch of Secret Saturdays' AMAZING season premiere and the returning Justice League Unlimited?

If anything, action cartoons are the best thing about CN at the moment.

Why? Whats happening this weekend that made you lose some faith in CN? The EE&E marathons? The fantastic lineup of shows we witnessed last night? What could it be?

The only thing about this weekend that upsets me a little bit is the back to back EE&E marathons, I like the show and I know a lot of people do, but do we really need two days of marathons for this show? On the flipside of the coin I can see why CN is doing this because they want the movie to do well tonight, but all in all it could be worse, we could have a Destroy Build Destroy marathon, or a marathon for The Othersiders.

I agree. Pink Panther is back also, so I'm assuming Cartoon Network is very well working hard to provide what it used to be ages ago.

"creativerealms" hates Ed Edd & Eddy, hence his disapproval.

I agree that two days of EE&E marathons is excessive...IMO, Secret Saturdays should have gotten the marathon slot on Saturday, so it could properly tie into the new season premiere and allow a larger audience to catch up on them series' storyline so far. But, of course, CN can't be bothered to promote the series anymore.

My dislike for Ed Edd and Eddy is well known I have in the past put it in the same light as CN real shows as the worst crap Cartoon network has ever aired. Too me an Ed edd and Eddy Marathon is as bad as an Othersiders or Destroy Build Destroy Marathon.

Cn's new american action shows are great.... better than any of the junk that disney and nick use anyway. Ben 10 AF is my one of my favorite shows since Heroes and Burn Notice, and TSS is absolutely awesome (now if only they promoted it as well as giving it that great new time slot ) Brave and the Bold is 60's Batman without the shark repellant. Sure the live action stuff is garbage and some of the new comedy isn't too hot, but if you want action cn still kicks the most butt.

whaaaaa? that's preposterous! you have shows like eene to thank for cn not going under and then giving shows like naruto... and you'll be happy to know (though everyone else won't) that eene will be virtually gone after the movie tonight. Comparing it to cn real stuff.. fewf.... Cn real failed, eene had a prosperous 5 season career spanning 10 years, thats all you need to know.

The answer is no, but for a different reason. Because the executives don't want to. They, for some strange reason, believe that if they keep pushing live-action, it will stick and they can beat Nick and Disney. Quality cartoons, a trademark of CN's past, are certainly profitable, and CN proved it many years ago. For CN to go back to its roots, its going to take someone who believes that to be true to take the helm of CN.
