What was your favorite video game gen?

Mine had to be the 5th generation, it was the (mainstream) introduction of 3D in the world and brought us some of the greatest classics in gaming.
(Mario 64, Ocarina, FF7, etc.)

The N64 brought us things like the rumble pak and the analog stick.

This gen also seperated the gaming world forever when the PS1 was announced. Hardcores came into existence and if you didn't own a PS1, you were basically a Nintendo baby.

Still my fav gen.

My favorite is the 16-bit era, or the fourth generation of video games, because my two absolute favorite game systems came out in that era, the Super Nintendo and the Game Boy/Game Boy Pocket. I also rather enjoy the third generation(even if it was largely dominated by the NES), and the fifth generation.

Third generation. My all-time favorite console (the original NES) hails from that era.

One of my favorite generations would have to be the SNES/Genesis generation, since that generation had some great games, like the Donkey Kong Country series, Chrono Trigger, and the main Sonic the Hedgehog games on the Genesis.

Another favorite generation of mine would have to be the PS1/N64 generation, because the PS1 had a lot of great games, not to mention a lot of variety. Whether you were into platformers, sports, shooters, or RPGs, you were bound to find something that you like on the PS1.

Hmm. I think mine is the SNES generation. I grew up on Link to the Past, and I have many favorite games for that little machine.

A close second would be the PS/N64 generation. That was the one I first bought my own games for, and my favorite game is on the PS (FFVIII).

The 16-bit era has what I feel is the greatest diversity of superlative games (on both Nintendo and Sega). Most games made since take a page from the best games of the 16-bit era.

I'll go with 16-bit too. Mario (RPG), Super-Metroid, SFII at the arcades and Sonic. It was quite a long and colorful generation for me.

I love the 16 bit era (Nintendo), 32 bit (Super Nintendo), and 64 bit (Nintendo 64). I love the Playstation 2, X-Box, Game Cube, Game Boy Advance, and Nintendo DS (I do not know about the Wii, though, but anyway), but maybe not as much, I do not know. It is very hard for me to say actually because I love games so much (though ironically I do not play games as much as I used to), but the 16, 32, and 64 bit eras are my favorite generations.

It would have to be the ones which involved the 8-bit and 16-bit systems, since the NES and SNES are my two all-time favorite systems. It was especially great in the days of the NES since there were no stupid ass console wars and hardly anyone would make you feel stupid for owning a system for which Nintendo was responsible.

I'll admit, it would have been nice to be able to own a Genesis along with an SNES, but having been a teenager with no full time job and a frugal mother, I could only have one system, and I ended up going with the SNES after being a long time NES supporter all that time.

Um, with the exception of the N64, all those "bits" are attributed to the wrong consoles. The Nintendo(NES) was 8-bit, and the Super Nintendo was 16-bit. The N64 was 64-bit, however the generation that console belongs in was the 32 bit era.

I vote for the 16 bit (SNES/Genesis) era as well.

This was the gen that I discovered how great the rpg genre is and most of my favorite rpg's of all time are SNES games.

I never grew up in the 8 and 16 bit eras! There are games I have played from those times but not a lot.

I grew up with the late fifth generation (psone and N64) through the current generation so saying which video game generation is my favorite is a tough choice.

16-bit gen (SNES and Genesis tie in awesomeness)
8-bit gen (NES owns this one)
PS1 gen (Never did and will never understand why the N64 is so highly looked upon despite having only a handful of great games)

I'd rank them in that order.

The SNES/Genesis to Playstation 1/Sega Dreamcast era is when I was most active in gaming, so that gen will always have a special place in my heart.

While I think the current Playstation 2-3/X-Box/Wii era (I'm not familiar with gen numbers, forgive me) graphically blows the 16-bit era's graphics away, the games themselves and their concepts just aren't as vibrant, colorful or compelling to me.

The older gens were great and all, but I'd actually have to say this current gen is my favorite. Besides the fact that in addition to this gen's games, some of the games from said older gens are downloadable and playable on recent consoles (not to mention are buyable from used game stores at, often, much lower prices than they originally ran for), the various things that you can do with game consoles these days are just amazing.

Well, whatever bits the Nintendo and Super Nintendo are, the point is that I love their generations.

I really don't have a favorite generation. I like all the different generations for different reasons and love games in every one of them.

16-bit no contest

8-bit was a good generation as well as was the race between PS1, N64 and Sega Saturn / Dreamcast along with the current generation. The PS2/Xbox/GCN gen was rather meh... almost made me lose interested in gaming. Anything pre 8-bit was before my time and I've never really gotten into those more vintage games so... yeah.
