Disney's Have a Laugh

Disney has a new section of their website called Have a Laugh, where they are putting abridged and redubbed versions of their classic shorts. It's basically Disney's version of the minisode.

http://disney.go.com/mickeymouse/video.html

More interestingly, Disney is streaming unabridged and unaltered versions of the two they've done, plus a couple of others (including Goofy's How to Hook Up Your Home Theater).

I'd like to see Disney expand on this and put up more of their classic shorts online.

Is that the new Mickey voice?

This practice seems somewhat pointless to me.

I don't get the point of the redub, but if that is Bret Iwan as Mickey in these abridged shorts, he does a nice job as Mickey. So far, I only watched the Lonesome Ghosts, for Halloween really, and was kind of interesting to see the short version of it after seeing the long version.

Bret Iwan's Mickey is pretty good. From what I heard, these shortened and redubbed versions of the cartoons are also shown on the Disney Channel during commercials sometimes.

If these are shown on TV, its nice to see that the classics still get to see the light of day (somewhat)

you mean they're pulling off their own abriged series?

what? couldn't they think up another original series or movie worthy of the Disney universe? Are they not gonna work some now that they bought Marvel? are they still not gonna air new Pucca episodes? (yes, I can keep complaining about it, at least until I get a valid explanation of what's going on with the series) have they gone so shallow to get all their ideas from Youtube?

even if that's not the case, even with the given fact they bought Marval Comics, I got this feeling in my gut that if they pull off something original, (or at least something most pople will have a hard time expecting from them) it will only be a matter of time before Disney finds themselves put on ice, and I not talking about those ice-skating plays based on Disney movies.

oh wait, there's the 'Princess and the Frog' upcoming film, but as far as I can tell, that's a far as they've gone for a while.

what I'm saying is, this 'Have a laugh' thing is something that might later put them downhill, 'cause they're only redubbing old cartoons, which is cheating, only fans are allowed to cheat somewhat in my opinion (I.E, pulling off sprite comics or AMV's).

bottum line, to me, it seems like a good idea on paper, but Disney, for my money, could do better.

I kinda like the new Mickey voice. Allwine was great, of course, but this new voice sounds younger, more boyish...if that makes any sense. Fits Mickey really well, especially when he's in retro mode.

Loved the Ghosts one. As for the newer Goofy toon...hmmm...I was never a fan of the "Everygoof" series, where Goofy plays the schmuck who gets tangled up in some kind of aggravating everyday occurrence, like getting stuck in traffic and stuff. And it always creeped me out a little that everybody in that world looked like Goofy, only without the floppy ears. Ew. Makes me think the ears got removed surgically, like what people do to Doberman's, Boxer's and Great Dane's ears in the real world. Only in the Diz world it's total removal. Ewwwwwww.

Yeah, I actually think about those things. Come on, earless Goofys, how can I not think about them? :P

The voices just don't seem to fit the classic designs of the characters. >_> I think its kind of pointless, can't they just air the original shorts? Either that, or make some new ones?

That was pretty interesting to watch. I couldn't help feel the audio quality of it being so out of place. I'm not saying the audio quality was bad it just really stuck out considering these shorts were originally done decades ago but it isn't a bad thing. I'd like to watch more to be honest.

Copying ideas off of youtube? What the hell? Did you even click the link?
I'm guessing as soon as you saw the word "abridged" you thought Disney was following the "abridged series" concept and just passed judgment without even checking it out. Am I right?

No. Abridged doesn't mean to parody. The word abridged means to shorten.
These are shortened re-dubs of the classic Disney cartoons not parodies.

The topic starter stated the original clips are on the site as well. Which makes it pretty convenient for those who would like to compare.

EDIT: I just saw the re-dubbed version Lonesome ghosts and then the original cartoon.
I like the re-dubbed version of that a lot more to be honest. I hope more re-dubs are produced.
