Things you don't like about video games, now in days

We all have a somewhat annoyance what we don't like in videos games...In today time I mean.
Me, personally. I don't like first person shooters that are too dark to see and have no map. I could be going around in cycles tryinging to find the next stage.
This is why I rarely play First person shooter games. In today time I mean.

And the whole bashing on Sonic thing. I get it been making bad game lately, but relax. Is like Sonic is the number one person you need to through your trash at.

Except Sonic is bashed because the poor hedgehog needs to be bashed. Sonic games have been really bad lately, I mean how can you take "Sonic and the Black Knight" seriously?

The only things I don't like is making a game to easy or to hard. Is it wrong to just have a nice moderate game with some challenge?

Most games now take the to easy route though.

Everything gets hyped to death because of limited collector editions with a time limit. Some of it's good, like the ones that come with DVDs and soundtracks, but everything has to be a collector's edition. And if you miss the preorder date to save your money, it's gone, and you're forced to go through Ebay.

Also, limited edition DS and PSPs were cool at first (Square does this a lot), but now they're getting tiresome.

Yeah, I been there. And some of those limited collector editions are not worth buying.

Well in gamers defense Sonic had this coming I mean sonic was a great game back in the day it made people leave Mario but as soon as Mario came back with a full slate of games sega ruined the Sonic mythos by trying to be exactly like them. Now the only thing that redeems it was the sonic advance series although those were lacking with the cheap tricks they used to with-hold extra lifes.

I dislike the movement towards online games. I live on a mountain and the only “fast” connection that I have access to is a satellite connection, which isn’t compatible with online gameplay. However, a lot of the games that I buy – hoping to get a good single player experience – ultimately disappoint me because it seems obvious that they put more effort into the online features. Whatever happened to the good ol’ days when you could get a game and play it for a few weeks before you beat it? Now, we’re getting games with twelve hour single player campaigns that barely last a weekend of gaming.

I also don’t like the lack of platformers on the 360. Nintendo and Sony have a ton of great platformers on their consoles, but I don’t think I could list three decent ones for the 360. Got “Banjo-Kazooie” and “Banjo-Tooie” through the arcade and I think those are the best platformers I have access to… But I digress.

That sounds like Little Big Planet. I don't want something that tells me I can't collect everything or explore every part of a level until I hook up with somebody online. If they want to do that, file that stuff into a seperate category labeled 'online levels'

I'm kinda hating the cheats we have now in days. Back than, there was a password or you have to push an other of bottoms to unlock something cool or fun to play the game.
Most games now in days don't have that.

The only way you can unlock cheats in most games now in days are by completing the game first or you have to look for it just to unlock the cheat.
Whats the point having cheat codes?!
And the cheat codes now in days are mostly just making the game even harder, a guide to beat the game or showing off.

I have not seen cheats that make the game harder but as for the other two you mention: Hasn't it like always been that way?

The game I'm talking about is Halo 3. You got to get these skulls and each Skulls have an effect in the game. It could make it harder or make things explode even bigger. But you have to look for it.

I remember cheat code used to be going to main menu and have to push these bottoms until you hear something to know if it works.
I'm not saying all games doesn't have these things, but most games don't.

Ah, forget what I said about Sonic!
This is not the topic for that.

I agree with this 100%, granted that I DO enjoy a good online experience, but even if its good its always more of a secondary thing to me. All I really care about is if its a game that is good enough for me to pick up and play anytime that I want to, and if it has a short single-player mode, it won't last me for more than a day or 2 at the most, unless it has a really high replay value (but it would have actually had to have had a lot of effort put into its single-player mode in the 1st place in order for it to even have a good replay value).

The thing is, a game that requires having online access to have any real sort of fun with (which in other words makes it primarily a multiplayer game) basically isn't something that you can just pick up at any given time and have fun with. The reason is because you might not have online access (or not a good connection, which is the case for me when I'm at college), or because you might not want to have to pay money to subscribe to an online service (which is also kind of my case with the XBOX360's Gold Membership requirement, in order to be able to play with others online). Also, I don't have a lot of friends who play the same games that I do, so even if I wanted to play a multiplayer game with someone else offline, I'd have a hard time finding someone to play with at any given time.

Therefore, a well developed single-player mode is the only thing that a gamer can completely rely on to not let them down (as long as its relatively well-designed, of course ).

I'm sick of the overabundance of first person shooters. When you flip through a magazine dedicated to showing off the fall's best games and see only one game that's not a shooter, you know there's too many flippin' shooters on the market.

What platformers does Sony have beside Little Big Planet and Ratchet and Clank that aren't multiplatform?

You don't HAVE to look for them. They are completely optional, and are only needed for getting achievements. Also, even if you do find them, it is optional whether you want to have their effects on or not. some of them do make the game harder, but its done in a relatively ridiculous and over-the-top sort of way, just to make certain points of the game fun to play in a ridiculous sort of way. I personally find their effects to be kind of stupid, but I don't let that bother me when playing the game, since I never end up turning their effects on, anyways.

I know its optional, but why do I need to look for them. Why can't I just “Hold A, B, push up and push start”?
I just want it. I don't want to look for it.

I'm sick of the "angsty, murderous vigilante out for VENGEANCE!" type characters that always seem to be starring in video games these days (usually carrying some over-the-top gun or something.) It's just like comic books during the 90s; anti-heroes everywhere.

But why would you even want to unlock those features. They aren't even really "cheats" at all. They don't help you do better at the game. They just create some ridiculous effects. Also, even if you do want to unlock those features, anyways, the skulls are pretty easy to find if you look up their locations online (which pretty much anyone with Intenet access can do).

I don't want to unlock so they can help me, I just want them for fun.
(And sometimes for help as well)

Short single player campaigns, or the selling point being online play. Thanks for making me waste money only to face opponents who always exploit the same old manuevers everyone knows.

It'd also be nice if the illustrations of the majority of today's games weren't attempting to look super-realistic or use very dark colors. It's hard to see any details in these models if they're always covered by dark shadows.
