Question about the "Snow White" Blu-rays?

AM I to understand that there are 3 different versions on blu-ray? First of all what is the difference between the diamond edition and the bookcase edition?

Secondly what edition is coming out in November?

There are quite a few versions of the Snow White Diamond Edition out there right now. As a matter of fact, there are five that I know of. There is a Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs Blu-Ray/DVD Combo in the standard DVD case with the two Blu-Ray discs and the film on DVD, and there is a version of the same thing in a Blu-Ray case. The next step up is the Blu-Ray/DVD combo with a book included. After that, we have the Blu-Ray/DVD combo with plushies of all seven dwarfs. Finally, for those who want to dig deep into their wallets, we have the Ultimate Collector's Super Duper Chocolate Covered edition of Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs with the Blu-Ray DVD combo, a larger book, what appears to be storyboard replicas, a jewelry style case to keep it in, and a few more premiums to give the die hard collectors their money's worth.

The version that will be released on November 24th is the standard DVD edition of the two-disc Diamond edition of Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs. Honestly, though, the Blu-Ray is the better value.

I hope that answers your questions.

Well....there is a "sixth" version, but it's a Best Buy exclusive I think, and it's really just the standard "combo" edition, but it has a blue "steelbook" case.

I found both of these today in Best Buy. If, aside from the packaging, they're pretty much the exact same thing, why was one $10 more than the other?

Right at this moment, the website only makes them $5 apart (DVD packaging and Blu-ray packaging). Best Buy is apparently either clueless that the contents are identical or they're trying to gouge Blu-ray customers, who are used to paying more for a movie.

I think Disney did a pretty stupid thing by packaging up the movies this way, and I think it will only get worse come November, when they release the actual DVD version that will only have DVDs in them. I can get behind giving BR buyers the DVD of the movie, but I think they should have just put it in the Blu-ray packaging. What they've done is only going to confuse retailers and consumers.

Well I picked up my Blu-Ray copy of Snow White and I picked up the copy that contained the 2 Blu-Ray discs and 1 DVD disc. I must say that the movie looks pretty good on Blu-ray---of course my TV can only display a 480i picture, so I'm not sure how it looks at 1080p.

So there is no difference in extras between the Blu-Ray/DVD combo and the DVD/Blu-Ray combo? I ask because I was looking at them during lunch break today and the Blu-Ray/DVD combo has DVD/Blu-Ray combo extras on Blu-Ray Disc, but the DVD/Blu-Ray release mentions an audio commentary on the back that the packaging for the Blu-Ray/DVD combo doesn't.

Lord, just read that paragraph. Yeah, they made this more complicated than it needed to be.

My Blu-Ray/DVD combo has the audio commentary on Blu-ray Disc One.

And as far as the DVD goes, its just like what Disney did earlier this year with the Pinnochio Blu-Ray/DVD combo...the DVD is the first disc from the DVD release. Which in the case of Snow White should be better since the Blu-Ray disc 1 had the "new" Bonus Features, while Blu-ray disc 2 contained a couple of bonuses that had been issued on the Platinum Edition in 2001, so the DVD should have nearly the same things as the Blu-ray Disc 1, or a few things may've been left off because of the amount of space on a DVD compared to a Blu-ray (I just put the DVD in to make sure that it worked---I didn't actually go through it entirely).

Short version: nope.

Technically, there is no DVD/Blu-ray combo -- both versions are 2 Blu-ray discs (1 movie, 1 bonus feature) and 1 DVD (movie only). The audio commentary is on both the Blu-ray and the DVD and is recycled from the 2001 Platinum Edition release, which assembles comments from Uncle Walt himself and commentary from John Canemaker. I believe that's the only real special feature worth talking about on the movie DVD. (EDIT: OK, the DVD also has the Princess and the Frog preview and the teeny-bopper dance remix of "Someday My Prince Will Come" that actually starts off pretty well before it turns into syntho-pop mush. Also, trailers.)

I will try to go into as much detail on this as I can in my review, which I should really get back to writing now instead of procrastinating by checking the forums .

You know I was really hoping that, since I didn't buy the Platinum edition when it came out, that Disney would've relicensed Barbara Streisand's version of Someday My Prince Will Come and included it in the bonuses. The clip of it that I've heard on a couple of Disney DVD's and even a Maxell cleaning DVD from that time, it sounded like a really nice take on the 70 year old song.

In the special bookcase combo, is the book really important? I mean what does it contain?

Nobody in the media seems to have received it as a screener, so I don't think you're going to find out unless you buy it or you find a friend who did.

Also, just in case you're not checking the News, my review is finally up, where I end up spending at least three times as much space talking about the bonus features than about the movie (but, admittedly, there is really very little I can say about the movie that hasn't been said elsewhere and probably better, and there are a LOT of bonuses on this disc).

Hey, I managed to get the Blu-ray bookcase combo and honestly, if u have money to spare it actually is worth it. I mean the book has the story, production details, artwork etc. but its very nice to have. So yeah if you don't mind shedding another 10 dollars, you should be happy enough.
