Stoked - Season 1 Talkback (Spoilers?)

If it's alright, I think we should just have a Season 1 talkback for now, as the last single episode talkbacks have gotten few posts and late creations. If not, feel free to close it..

Series Description:
Stoked is a character driven animated situational comedy about a group of groms who come together one summer on legendary Sunset Island, B.C. to experience the ultimate surfer's dream - the endless summer! Emma, Reef and Fin join locals Broseph, Lo, her brothers George and Ty, and Johnny to work at the world renowned Surfer's Paradise Ridgemount Resort, stoked to have the summer of their lives. What they find instead—the worst jobs ever, hideous uniforms, zero respect, a run-down staff house, and a tacky, fake, touristy resort. For twelve weeks, they'll spend their first summer away from home and work the hardest that they've ever worked in their lives, but, most importantly, they have the opportunity to surf on their days off.
The show was created by FreshTV, who also created the shows Total Drama Island/Action and 6teen, both on CN as well, as you probably know.

New episodes currently air every Thursday night at 9:30PM.

EPISODE LIST (Spoiler'd just in case, as it contains names of future episodes)

Spoiler:
1.Welcome to Paradise, Dudes! 7/16/09
2.Another Grom Bites the Dust 7/23/09
3.Board and Confused 7/30/09

I've never been a fan of Stoked and 6Teen just cause its animated version of what you'd watch on The CW, but I think if they focused more on characters and not just the jobs it can be good.

I think it's starting to focus more on the characters.. Just too much on Reef. We need further character development for characters such as Emma.. She's recently been just kind of... there. Especially in the most recent episode aired on CN.

Also.. I believe there were 52 episodes ordered for this series. So there'll probably be a 2nd Season sometime in 2010 or so.

I find myself enjoying this series. I know that it breaks no new ground in terms of animation or story, but it has an overall likeability.

I like the basic premise of the show, revolving around the summer job. I remember those days; the jobs weren't great but you did learn a lot.

Perhaps it appeals to me because the characters are teenagers and the situations are more mature. Romantic situations and conflicts are almost required in situations like this, and so far the show has handled them well.

The Johnnie-Emma situation is the most interesting to me. Johnnie has been tagged with the "nice guy" label, and as we all know, "nice guys finish last". Will the writers take this down the road to Heartbreak Hotel, or take the easy out and bring them together?

The Fin-Reef pairing is the most predictable. Their natural competitiveness was bound to bring them together. I think the writers will use this pairing for a lot of conflict and laughs. Reef's "macho" attitude makes him an easy target.

Lor is showing herself to be more than just a spoiled rich girl. She has integrated with the rest of the staff and is showing signs of responsibility. She slips up from time to time, something I expect to continue.

Overall, I give it a B. Better than most, not as good as some. I don't know how many episodes that CN committed to, but I hope the show is around for a while.

After the new TDA episode tonight, they aired some really pointless montage of clips from the first few episodes with some music playing in the background. And they called it "epic" in the promos.

HAHAHAHA.
WRONG.

When the show was coming out i was worried it would be more like 6teen on the beach but I've been enjoying the show ever since it premiered and I can't wait for future eps it keeps me in that summer vibe.

Calm down.

It was just a way to introduce the show to people who haven't seen it yet. I thought it was well made.

And personally, I loved the fact that licensed musicwas playing in the backgorund.

I haven't decided if I'm going to watch this show regularly yet. So far, I thought everything I saw was okay, and I certainly enjoy some of the other shows from these people, but nothing's really grabbed me yet.

I probably will, though, it looks really solid. I do agree they need to focus on someone other than Reef for awhile.

"Charging into the Night" is right up there with "Waves of Cheese" in terms of enjoyment. Very, very fun episode.

Johnny tries so hard, but Emma doesn't notice. Emma tries so hard, and Ty just thinks she's weird. It's probably going to be awhile until we get somewhere with the Johnny-Emma-Ty triangle, but by far, it's actually fun to see all of this non-progress... if for the side antics. Reef and Broseph thinking Emma sees Johnny as a 'gal pal', the two opposing Trekkie factions making out in a dead elevator in front of Emma and Ty.

Speaking of 'dead,' this episode really hit it off once the power went out. Reef freaking, Baumer and Kelly's 'date', Fin paying Broseph five bucks to slap Reef if he got too 'out there.' Great stuff.

Actually, let me go back to the 'date.' Baumer and Kelly? Bwa ha ha ha! Would never see them as lovers, but they do spout out some very interesting banter. At least they had dinner and rode home in 'style'...

..How old are Bummer and Kelly supposed to be?

It's getting kind of tiresome with so many episodes having the main story revolve around Reef.

Mesousa, will we be seeing any episodes that don't focus a lot on Reef?

Next week's episode will focus on Broseph.

The episode in 2 weeks focuses on Johnny being in charge of the hotel, although Reef is part of a B-plot.

Anyways, I already mentioned this episode before, it's a great episode...until the ending!

What an awful ending, but now that I think about it maybe Emma deserves that after going all "Tyler's gonna love this" near Johny almost al the time, and making feel more hopeless.

Last night's episode was great. Really funny, with an interesting premise.

I agree Reef's getting too much screen time...I'm glad to hear that we're getting some episodes that focus on someone else.

And Johnny...poor Johnny. Something tells me seeing everything play out between him and Emma will be one of my favorite parts of the show.

So-so episode (admit my tolerance of "Trekkies are losers" jokes is almost as thin as my tolerance for "sitcom bratty half-pints" ;-) )....

They all have iPhones (or an iPhone-styled knockoff)? Pretty well-off bunch of teens there.... (IIRC there is a setting on the iPhone for a "light source" function, so using it as a flashlight wasn't too far-fetched).

Canadianisms:
None really this week.

There were iPod's in 6Teen and TDI, so this is an upgrade.

I liked this one too. I didn't expect the hotel to have a blackout but with Reef involved anything is possibe! I think I found myself laughing the most when the gang was looking for the fuse box. Upon Reef, Lo, and Fin opening the door and seeing the meats and butcherknife and him asking Lo what kind of place her father was running had me in stitches! But even before that scene with Broseph yelling every man for themselves was hilarious!

Poor, poor Johnny. When Reef mention that Emma sees Johnny as a girl and Broseph saying it embarrassing while I was in agreement. And how is that Johnny and Emma both share the trait where they cannot tell someone that they liked them. I'm so wonderinf how it gonna end for them.

The cosplayers kissing in the elavator actually took me by surprise. I was expecting the big guy to be a 'fradity cat and the woman gung-ho or something. Them making out and not caring was pretty and gross. I kept wanting Ty to say he perferred the dark.

Oh and Kelly date with Mr. Head Up His Butt had me almost think they were going to get together. Luckily It didn't happen and even he found her annoying. Her insults were pretty good though. Hehehe!

Very good episode and a cool down on the Reef and Fin stuff is appreciated!

Oh man I agree with everythiing you said. The episode really kick into high gear and was pure hhilarity! And Reef getting the slaps and admitting he deserved the last one.LOL

The ending was weird and I did felt for Emma but I totally didn't care because the rest of the ep was just too good!

Easily one of the best eps so far!

Broseph was actually yelling "every 'dude' for himself". But, ah, I'm just messin' with you.

I haven't had a chance to comment on "Charging into the Night" yet. Here are my thoughts on it:

1. Although it caused a major blackout, I felt Reef had a great idea in using the floodlights so they could surf at night. I liked the romantic moment between Johnny & Emma under the moonlight.

2. I felt sorry for Ty & Emma being stuck in that elevator during the blackout. It was sad to see Emma choke on marshmallow and then hurl it into Ty's face after that huge Trekkie gave her the Heimlich Maneuver. I did like seeing the 2 Trekkies make out, though.

3. I liked how Kahuna was able to stall Baumer & Kelly from returning to the hotel. I gotta admit, they made a pretty nice couple.

4. In the hotel basement, I thought it was hilarious to see Reef get scared of both the dark and spiders! I loved how he got slapped by Broseph & Fin.

5. Reef sure got lucky when he flipped the correct switch on the circuit-breaker.

7. I kinda felt sorry for Emma getting stuck in the basement when the blackout happened again.

A pretty good ep. 4 stars.

I'm thinking Emma indeed deserves to be punished like this by mentioning Tyler a lor in front of Johnny, it's like she was asking for it.

Sorry, Emma, but it's sort of true.
