This is the talkback thread for Luxo Suing Disney/Pixar Over Lamp in "Up" Blu-ray Limited Edition.

Before people start jumping all over Luxo saying that this hasn't been a problem for the past 23 years, it's important to note that this lawsuit is over the physical lamp that is being sold, not the Luxo, Jr. character itself. Using the lamp on screen in a digital representation isn't something Luxo can do much about, but if Disney/Pixar is selling an actual functioning lamp called "Luxo Jr," then they are totally violating Luxo's copyright.

Considering how seriously Disney takes copyright protections, I'm a little surprised that nobody in the Disney legal department thought to ask whether this would present a problem.

I'm a little shocked about that lawsuit as well because I actually thought Luxo was making the lamps themselves. Considering they own all the patents, trademarks, and designs of the Luxo lamp and Disney is making their own without them, then yeah, giving away lamps based on Luxo's elements without their permission is a no-no, and Disney, of all people shouldn't screw with other people's intellectual property.

Though Disney will probably say it's foreign, it doesn't count *cough*Kimba*cough*.

I wouldn't be surprised if Disney just went and bought Luxo out in response.

Also, they're putting Luxo Jr in Up? I think I might get it on Blu-Ray now.
EDIT: Holy crap, its $200? Never mind.

This statement made me laugh:

A spokesman for Disney said the company had not seen the complaint and could not comment.

Does Disney just keep their mail in a big hamper in a corner and forget about it?
