Cookie Jar TV debuts on CBS Starting September 19

So...I was kind of wrong here. Very Wrong.

- ALL of last season's programs from KEWLopolis (Care Bears, Strawberry Shortcake, Cake, Dino Squad, Sushi Pack, and Horseland) are gone either for now or for good. I get it why they take off Dino Squad, Cake, Horseland, Strawberry Shortcake and Sushi Pack, but Care Bears to me still has some legs left for another season.

- Longtime KOL Secret Slumber Party / KEWLopolis alum Sabrina The Animated Series returns. Eh. 10 years ago in September 1999, it was on ABC and UPN. In 2006, it reran on CBS. In October 2007, it left CBS. And now, it returns yet AGAIN. 10th anniversary, perhaps?

- The Busy World of Richard Scarry comes to CBS....I'm just foolin' ya. Busytown Mysteries (A related series from Cookie Jar) is coming on CBS.

- Noonbory and the Super 7 (A new series) will premiere on CBS this fall.

SCHEDULE on September 19 (Depending on where you live at):

7:00AM Busytown Mysteries
7:30AM Noonbory and the Super 7
8:00AM Busytown Mysteries
8:30AM Sabrina The Animated Series
11:00AM Busytown Mysteries
11:30AM Noonbory and the Super 7

Two new shows and a rerun series.

Cookie Jar has shows that are more than completed (Like Metajets, Season 2 of World of Quest) that could air at 11:00AM and 11:30AM. I don't know, maybe we'll see more new shows in October-November or mid-season.

Let me get this straight: Cookie Jar has, like, the largest collection of animation on the planet, and their block only has TWO shows on it?

Can't get much more underwhelming than that.

I'll give the KEWL block credit for actually giving an ounce of thought about what they put on.

But since when has CBS itself cared one iota about this block? As long as all six slots are E/I compliant, they say OK and look the other way.

But even in that context, this new lineup might be the weakest ever on any broadcast network.

Metajets isn't E/I. It'll never be on CBS.

Metajets, World of Quest, and Spider Riders all wouldn't meet the e/i requirements which CBS requires Cookie Jar TV to air.

Some time ago, you announced Cookie Jar Entertainment were to air four brand-new shows on Cookie Jar TV this fall. I've got Busytown Mysteries and Noonbory and the Super 7; what were the other two that Cookie Jar directly told you about?

I can't say, not that it matters right now. Stuff happens a lot in due time anyway. Besides Arthur and Caillou on PBS, Cookie Jar has a lot more E/I shows they could air on CBS, like WIll and Dewitt. And I can't help but wonder why Sabrina is back on CBS again.

Even qubo's got more shows than Cookie Jar TV (on CBS anyway).

And PC!, their library is huge, but not as big as Classic Media's, Disney's and especially Time Warner's.

What did they bring Sabrina back for? Of all the shows in the world, why that? And why are they playing the same series twice in a morning.

The thing I hate most about CBS/recent syndicated runs of Sabrina is they use a shortened version of the ALREADY shortened version of the theme song.

I remember when it premiered on Disney's One Too block, it had the requisite shortened opening (30 seconds give or take) that most of the DA shows got for their syndicated runs, while the ABC airiings had the full minute opening. When the show moved to Toon Disney it got a hatcheted opening (15-20 seconds?) and it stuck with the show when it moved back to syndication/CBS a year or so later.

I don't understand this scheduling move at all. It seems like they are trying to lose the ratings battle now.

Why wouldn't you try to get as much variety as possible to draw in a large audience. There is no way they could possibly think that this schedule could get a large number of viewers. In fact if Busytown Mysteries flops then its game over. This looks like more of a stall move than anything because it doesn't appear like this schedule could compete. I wonder why they decided to do this.

Of course ive never seen busytown mysteries (i have seen the busy world of richard scary tho) and Noonbory and the Super 7 so they could possibly warrant repeated airings in the same morning all the while staying fresh.

Also, is sabrina just there to retain the audience of a formerly girl-centric line up?

There was a second Busytown series?

Also, I was really hoping the new Care Bears would've stuck around long enough to reintroduce the Care Bear cousins, especially Brightheart and Swiftheart. I could've sword it was going to get a re-branded third season.

Well, the way I see it, it's obvious test marketing. There are two possible scenarios I can get out of this:

1. The block is a success, and they add more shows (and not just one show to ultimately replace Sabrina).

2. The block is a failure, and they keep as it is throughout the season (with just one show replacing Sabrina).

Also let's keep in mind that "DIC" is not running the block anymore, it's Cookie Jar, whom DIC merged with (meaning that DIC officially no longer exists as a company; still I hope future DVD's of DIC shows still keep their DIC logos, but that's another topic).

In any event, I personally can't support a venture that's too "safe" for it's own good (mind you, there's nothing wrong with "safe", but just three shows doesn't cut it, as others have pointed out). For that reason, I sincerely hope that they bring more shows to the block in the months to come.

I haven't heard of Busytown Mysteries, but The Busy World of Richard Scarry would sure bring back memories.

But yeah, their only e/i show I really care about is Magi-Nation.

Until the press release is available, this information is all we have for now.

Oh, for those who didn't see the catchy KEWLopolis like commercial yesterday will be able to see it today in some markets.

My Two Cents

Okay. Now we all know that this block sucks. We all know that CBS, like a lot of networks, don't have an inch of soul in them to get the word out that cable, both premium and digital, has taken the kids from watching shows once a week to watching any of their favorite shows 7 days a week. No matter what the FCC says, no matter how many hours of E/I programming each channel supposed to have, all of these networks know this: Saturday mornings are dead.

Besides watching some select shows from The CW4Kids block, what else is on Saturdays to keep me, us, and the younger kids of the future entertained on the Alphabet Soup Networks? Pretty much nothing. Everyone who want shows like Spider Riders, Magi-Nation, World of Quest and, here's the big shock even though I thought people everywhere loathed this show on this site, Will and Dewitt, on this weak kiddie block that we have in front of us, should had known over the three-four years all of them had been on TV that they failed for a reason. The merchandise wasn't pushing out, some people didn't know why some of these shows existed, such as W&D where the frog creature came from Pampers Diapers or that M-N was based from an old Game Boy Color video game/trading card game of the same title, and we all know that even Kids' WB failed to even let them last more than a couple episodes each because they were seeing low ratings for every single one of them.

Now I have my complaints about each of them, save for Will & Dewitt that I had stayed away from since the first episode, World of Quest because the animation, story, and what have new, never caught my interest, and of course the horrible, HORRIBLE voices and music cues for the infamous and probably forgotten Japan/Canadian produced Spider Riders, but they all had their chance to bring people of all ages to watch them every week. Unfortunately for the fans of all of these shows, they're gone. Even if they still exist in Canada running through all of their episodes, these shows were pretty much bombs. If you want CBS to continue going the route of low ratings every week, think about what would've happened if the above shows even stepped foot on the Cookie Jar TV block or even the soon-to-be-gone KEWLopois block.

We would like Saturdays to be fun again and not be another day where re-runs of Hannah Montana, That's So Raven, and Suite Life of Zack and Cody to continue popping up anything in the 1.0 range. It's sad that these shows are doing well even with episodes we've seen a million, billion times and are also on DVD, I-Tunes, and probably showcased on fansites and YT. If you ask me, not only CBS needs help but so does ABC because there's a LOT to improve on their kids' block. NBC, not worth it.

So again, Saturdays are continuing getting worse and worse by the second and these networks, with the odd choices they've made over the years, are just taking the 'just grin and bear it' approach. This is terrible and it will only get worse unless this Alphabet Soup finally get into talks with the FCC to change the rules of the game so that any kids' show will be fair game or just have the blocks disappear altogether.

Come 2010, I might still take a look at the leftover kids' blocks but really besides the big shows that we've heard about coming to CN and Nick, Saturdays are nothing but a memory.

What exactly is THIStv? Is it on DirecTV or is it local only? I don't think I get it and I would love to watch Spider Riders.
