Star Wars: The Force Unleashed - Ultimate Sith Edition News and Discussion Thread

Can't find the original thread for the original game...

http://comic-con.gamespot.com/story/...for-pc-ps3-360

Quote:
Force Unleashed unleashing more DLC, Sith Edition for PC, PS3, 360

[UPDATE] LucasArts announces Luke Skywalker level coming to PSN, XBL this fall; retail edition will box up all previous downloadable content, exclusive add-on; game coming to Windows and Mac for first time.

Boba Fett rolls out the welcome mat on Tatooine.

Though not wholeheartedly embraced by critics, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has proved a massive hit for LucasArts, now selling over 6 million copies worldwide since its September 2008 release. Today at Comic-Con 2009 in San Diego, the company announced it is readying a downloadable expansion for the game, as well as a new retail configuration.
Due out this fall on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network, the new Tatooine Downloadable Content will take place in the titular planet--but will offer a storyline not seen in any prior films or games. A sort of alternate history inside the Star Wars universe, the "Infinities" storyline will see players resume the mantle of Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice.

Luke Skywalker is the welcoming committee on Hoth.

[WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!]
The DLC will begin after one of the game's numerous endings when the player kills Vader and becomes Emperor Palpatine's assistant and a Sith Lord. The malevolent galactic dictator then dispatches players to Tatooine, where they will try to track down and kill the Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi. Along the way, players will encounter Jabba the Hutt's palace and bump into the bounty hunter Boba Fett--who, judging by the screenshots, isn't very welcoming.
As it turns out, Tatooine Downloadable Content will only be the first part of the "Infinities" storyline. The second, which will see the players travel to Hoth and do battle with Luke Skywalker, and wipe the last traces of the Rebellion from the galaxy. That add-on will only be available as part of a new boxed retail product. Available only for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Star Wars The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition will include the original game, the Coruscant and Tatooine missions, as well as the Hoth level. It will be available this fall at an as-yet unannounced price. Given its best-seller status, the Force Unleashed is currently available for $29.99 at retailers such as Best Buy solo.
[UPDATE] At its Comic-Con press event, LucasArts also announced Star Wars The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition for the PC and Mac, bringing the game to both platforms for the first time. It is expected alongside its console brethren this holiday season.

Of course, I have the Wii version of the game, so this leaves me out unless I ditch it and buy a different version.

Can't say I'm too broken up about that, though. The expansion is a glorified what-if scenario, since the Sith ending is not canon. It also isn't clear yet how much gameplay this will add, or if you'll ever be presented with a choice again...or if the game makers think for whatever reason that people just want to play as a Sith.

I'm bemused at the mention of the "numerous" endings. Yeah, no...there were two. That doesn't even quality for "several," guys, and everyone who's played the game knows it.

Wake me when and if they decide to make a genuine sequel, as opposed to a 1.1. version. That means longer gameplay and the opportunity to play other characters at different points in history.

Of course I recently dumped the PS3 version.

I wouldn't get this addon because the last time the PS3 version added new playable levels (it was advertised as multiple playable levels but only one level and many idiotic costumes) I was HUGELY disappointed.

Well I was disappointed when I first found out when this game wasn't coming to the PC; then I read all the reviews and fan reaction to this game and I wasn't disappointed anymore.

I think I'll play through the Dark Forces trilogy when this game comes out unless I can get it for $10-$15 in the bargain bin.

This, for 360 at least, was one of those games that started okay but somehow managed to get worse near the end. By the last two boss fights it was a nearly unplayable mess. New content wouldn't make me want to play it again.

This doesn't really make sense. The Dark ending has the founders of the Rebel Alliance end up dying and Gaven being rebuilt into Palpatine's new apprentice, so unless another group form the Alliance, there's really no need. The other ending has him dying in order to have them escape.

Aw, I wanted a pseudo-sequel where they addressed all the problems that plagued the first game.

...But I guess not. This may work, this may not, but I'm not really going to find out since my experience with the Force Unleashed was more than enough to just leave it after I was done.

I bought the Wii version last year and I just grabbed the 360 version cheap yesterday at Blockbuster. Should've waited

Actually like the Wii version more, it just seems a game of this type demands physical interaction. You can't go back to pushing buttons once you've shoved Stormtroopers out of your way via nunchuck.

But at the same time...
Spoiler:
You lose the chance to manually bring down the Star Destroyer using the Force in that version. So it's kindof a wash. =\

That is the only thing I hated about the PS3 version. That pissed me off so much. It was pure luck I did it the last time I tried.

That's one of the worst and most annoying things that has ever happened in a game, though, so it's more like "spared" than "lost."

As a former serious Star Wars geek, the storyline hook really isn't working for me. An Infinities sequel to a game which already added some questionable elements to the overall canon (seriously, THAT was the birth of the rebellion? Not the clear breaches of power Palpatine had already shown?)

Maybe I'm not aware enough of the gritty details of the canon, but the original game didn't seem all that inconsistent with it to me. I mean, there were dissidents at the start of the game. The game just gave an explanation for how they got together as a cohesive unit.

It also handled the Sith thing well...all the attempts at backstabbing and betrayal ended up having unintended consequences. "Oft evil will shall evil mar," to quote a superior story.

Star Wars EU is worse than Gundam UC sidestories. Nothing can be left alone to naturally evolve, no one can just be some guy in the background. Everything must be a crappy spin off. I personally think that the prequels did an adequate job of showing why the rebellion would start. It really didn't need
Spoiler:
Vader's failed apprentice to kick things off, nor make the symbol of the rebellion be his family crest. I much more prefer the previous story that the rebellion uses a symbol that represents the former integrity of the Galactic Republic

Hmm, that old explanation for the crest was pretty awesome. I had no idea. Oh well...

When it comes to EU, I only count the stuff Timothy Zahn made. Hell, "The Hand of Thrawn" books go out of their way to make fun of a lot of the more questionable elements of the EU, like endless superweapons and galactic overspending.

Yuuzhan Vong don't exist. Ever.

That being said, gameplay is key. That and cost. Fix the issues, and we'll talk business. Otherwise, stay away.

Since this sold well, I foresee a Prequel where you play as Vader and hunt down Jedi perhaps 10 years after ep 3.

Welp, I saw some of the Tatooine expansion pack...and I found myself wishing I didn't.
