Why don't people like The Jetsons meet the Flintstones?

    Like This Thread!
I've noticed a few times that people have slammed The Jetsons Meet The Flintstones, most recently in the thread about animated crossovers. My question is, why? I remember loving it as a kid and thinking it was so wild to see the two animated families interacting, and see how the Flinstones react to being in the jet age and the Jetsons react to being in the stone age.

I really liked the movie when I was younger. I haven't seen it recently though.

It was cheesy, but I liked it as well... also the first place I ever heard a cartoon character use the word "sexy" (which surprised me when I first saw it---when it initially debuted as a syndicated made-for-TV movie circa 1987; I was in junior high at the time).

I watched a broadcast of that one once, just out of curiosity. And while I certainly didn't hate it, neither did I like it enough to want any repeat viewings. There just wasn't all that much to it, beyond the somewhat intriguing spectacle of seeing H-B's past-and-future families come face to face.

It wasn't that great, but it was a lot better then most of the regular Flintstone and Jetson movies that were being produced at that time (like Rock Out With Judy Jetson or The Man called Flintstone) which were just pointless movies with as much stupid musical numbers crammed into them before the audiance could die from the stupidity said music numbers produced.

Most people find the film slow moving, boring, and dull. Even as a kid, I found sitting through it was a chore.

Actually, "A Man Called Flintstone" came out back in 1966, around the time the original series was cancelled. The film's plot (spies) was presumably meant to cash in on/parody the big spy craze popular at the time ("The Avengers", "The Man From U.N.C.L.E.", James Bond, etc.).

Well, for me it's probably got a lot to do with the fact that I don't like the Flinstones or the Jetsons. A movie about both of them is not exactly my cup of tea....

Really? That's intresting. I would like to change my comments on "The Man Called Flintstone" then. I still think it was a crappy, poorly done spoof with horrible music numbers, but if it was made in 1966, then at least the movie had really good animation going for it (At the time anyway). It looks just like the 1980's movies, and even though they aren't exactly the modern standards for the greatness of animation, saying a show looks like it could be 20 years younger then it is says a lot about the quality of the animation, if nothing else (and in this case, nothing else. Defintley nothing else).

I like "A Man Call Flintstone" alot better than "The Jetsons meet the Flintstones." AMCF had some great 1960s animation and a few good songs. However, the movie falls apart when it tries to be cute, with songs sung by Pebbles and Bamm Bamm.

A big reason I dont like "Jetsons meet the Flintstones" is that Judy Jetson gets alot of screen time and I always hate it when she whines about whatever rock star she thinks is cute. Besides, the movie is WAY too long and never seems to end.

"The Jetsons Meet The Flintstones" was certianly one of the better Hanna-Barbera TV movies of the week. ("Top Cat & The Beverly Hills Cats" wasn't too shabby either.) At least it had the legit idea of having both families meet eachother via Elroy's time machine. I wouldn't mind owning it on DVD. (Warners should've put this one out at the same time they reissued the film on video.) Here's something interesting I found out. Years before that movie was made, There was A Marvel comic book story (When Marvel use to have A licence to publish H-B related comics at the time.) where both George Jetson, and Fred Flintstone met eachother via time warp. It was nothing like the movie, but it was quite A shock in my eyes. Now "Flintstones On The Rocks", There's A real Flintstones movie. That one needs to be out on DVD right now!!
