A Charlie Brown Valentine - Talkback (Spoilers)

    Like This Thread!
Nice. Good to see the peanuts back. But it dragged on with the little red-haired girl stuff...........to quote: "Arrgh!" They finally showed her tho! That was surprising. "She's Taken" lol Snoopy...he thought it was a costume party heh, "Come pick it up in five days, it's too potent!"

    Anyway, review it!

I saw like ten minutes of this and was severely annoyed.

I say the original cartoons were the best. The characters were more likable, believable, and funnier. What I saw had the makings of a true Schultz strip, but was executed poorly. I always felt Peanuts had a fair amount of irony and satire that mature viewers could enjoy. I'm sure a good portion of the speech was lifted from the comic strips, but it didn't come across as smart as the earlier cartoons.

I dunno, it might just be me. I like the Haloween and Christmas specials myself. But the best one was the camp one. That was just classic.

Did they need a new Valentine's day show? There was one from 1975, "Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown", which is now available on DVD (plug). The biggest problem with "A Charlie Brown Valentine" is the unavoidable fact that without Charles M. Schulz at the helm, a Peanuts show just doesn't seem right. You can't just take a bunch of old strips, squash them together into a script, animate it and expect to have a good show. Charles Schulz was the heart and soul of Peanuts, and without him, these shows seem like a soulless attempt to squeeze more money out of his legacy by Bill Melendez, United Media and ABC. Schulz's family should seek to stop Bill Melendez from cheapening Peanuts any further with any more of these sub-par shows.

Schulz was pretty adamant about not showing Red-Haired Girl's face. The only times Schulz ever showed her in the strip was in silhouette form.

I never realized the Little Red Haired Girl thing until you mentioned it.

I do agree that the "animate a bunch of comics together" thing isn't as good. They did one after ABC aired the Christmas special this past year as well, and it just doesn't flow as well.

Still, I'll take whatever Charile Brown I can get.

Yeah, Race For Your Life Charlie Brown was good but the ones like that always seemed to drag. And these new ones are not too good. This one didn't really keep my attention. The new Christmas ones did because it was new, but I'd rate them the same. I noticed the way it was all like individual comic strips, and didn't find that too appealing. I hate that they showed the little red haired girl. I'd thought that they'd shown her before but I always felt people like her and the teacher and the parents just weren't meant to be seen. Some of the voices were ok, but they all were boring. like the had no enthusiasm. Was there a Sally and her sweet baboo sketch? If there was, I missed it, and if there wasn't... How could they leave that out of a valentines day special!?! Oh well, I didn't like it too much, but I'd watch it again.

And I just don't get Schroeder. I don't see how he can play such pieces of classical music on that little toy piano, and I'm surprised he doesn't seem to have back problems.

    Hello.

I know this topic hasn't been posted in in a couple of years, but I had a question regarding this special.

Is 2007 the only other year that this has been shown other than 2002 and 2003? I've not seen it on tv the last few years so I was not sure if I just missed it then or ABC just did not show it for a few years and decided to show it again this year.

Please let me know. Thanks so much.
