Deputy Dawg, Tennessee Tuxedo, Super Chicken, etc.

    Like This Thread!
Hello, Im new here and just wondering who cherishes these older classics like I do. Rocky And Bullwinkle, Underdog, George Of The Jungle, Deputy Dawg, Astro Nut, Super Chicken, Tennessee Tuxedo, Go Go Gophers, Klondike Kat, original Yogi Bear, Pixie And Dixie, Huckleberry Hound, Hokey Wolf, Wally Gator, and the rest of the Jay Wards are my favorites. I think the late 50's and 60's produced the most charming toons and I really love the limited animation, music, character art, colors, and backgrounds. Something surreal about it that I love, and I really miss that style. The cartoons of today just do not have that quality. Seems like the kids just like all the gross out, sugar charged, Ren N Stimpy knockoffs. Did R N S ruin cartoons? Anyway..

I am desperatley in search of especially Deputy Dawg (where the heck is he and why is he not on video?) Super Chicken, Underdog, Rocky And Bullwinkle, Tennessee Tuxedo, Gene Deitch era Tom N Jerry, and Klondike Kat. I don't have any toons to trade per se', but I do have other rarities you may want (ya like MST3K?) or I'd definitley be willing to pay $ for copies of any of these. Preferrablly in original form. Thanks!!

I haven't actually seen many of those, other than Yogi Bear, Pixie and Dixie, Huckleberry Hound, and Deputy Dawg, but I did stumble upon Tennessee Tuxedo once on Boomerang. My first thought? "Amazingly Alliterative!"

Look at that... DD, TT, GGG, KK, HH... Wow.

Uh, as far as the rest of your topic goes, I guess I'm no help, really.

I like alot of the 60's Hanna-Barbera stuff. "Rocky & Bullwinkle," and "George Of The Jungle" both had A satirical edge. Making them work on both levles. "Underdog", and the other Total Television cartoons were good for their day, but they don't hold A candle to the Jay Ward shows.

I watched most of those when Cartoon Network showed them, especially Underdog. I still remember watching that hour (or two) of Roger Ramjet.

Deputy Dawg was made by Terrytoons, I think, and Viacom/Paramount owns the entire Terry library. Actually, Viacom owns a lot of classic cartoons but does nothing with them I think they let Universal Studios have the home video rights, but they also did nothing with the library.

The Dietch Tom and Jerrys play durring CN's Tom and Jerry show. CN actually posts what shorts they are going to play in advance, so you can find out when they are going to air and just tape those shows. They have quite a cult following.

The people at the Termite Terrace board would probably be able to help you with getting some of these cartoons.

Man, now I remember that. I hated that show, yet I watched it anyways. Very, very strange.

I have fond memories of a lot of the shows you list, Donuthole. If anybody was broadcasting 'em I'd watch just for the nolstagic value, though several of them have more to offer. Particularly the Jay Ward creations- they proved that, with enough wit and originality, limited animation can also be Classic.

I haven't seen 'Deputy Dawg' in quite a while either. Prehaps the folks holding the rights to him think his original audience has all died off?

Yeah, the era in which these were made is interesting to me and above all, I think what draws me to these especially, is the atmosphere and the fact that the characters seemed to actually be living in their little cartoon world with the surreal background paintings (Deputy Dawg). It's as if you were peeking into their alternate dimension cartoon life. Sounds weird, but I just think that quality is neat and now it's gone. Cartoons made today just seem to primarily be mugging for the camera too much for the "gag" as if to say "Im the entertainment, right here! Watch my eyes bug out!!" You know what I mean?

Actually, I just found out Tennessee Tuxedo, Underdog, Rocky N Bullwinkle, Dudley Do Right, and Ruff N Ready are now airing on the Boomerang channel. Since finding out about the channel, I am now upgrading my satellite and subscription package primarily for these shows
